Winning a Knock out comp without playing a single game

Bumped in to our handicap sec today and he told me about something, which must be quite unusual
.

Someone at the club has won one of the match play knock out comps without playing a single game.

Police would like to speak to the winner to assist with their enquiries into the disappearance of 8 seemingly unrleated men.

No...

Its a pain arranging any sort of e tie at the club, I'm not going to bother playing next year myself. lots put their names down then are never actually avail to play.

How come? We did have issues historically but we now make both players equally responsible for arranging the tie

Why would he be chuffed?

I personally wouldn't want the trophy, or my name on the honours board.

Don't get me wrong... its not his fault.... but can't se why he would have any positive feelings towards his "victory".

I'm with you. My partner and I were fortunate to win one this year and for us the satisfaction in winning comes from the fact that each of our opponents gave us a damned hard fight.

Club should retire the trophy or dream up an alternate format, possibly an additional weekend comp - an embarrassment.

I'm not surprised, i had at least one WO in the 5 comps i entered sadly got knocked out the very next

they started charging people to enter last year to kerb the amount of games that were going unplayed, its not made much diff TBH

The guy conceding the finals a bit strange- surely you would think if you're in the final you would want to play it- especially as he would probably have actually played some ties

Yes i don't know the details of the final and why that wan't played
