I used to love Wimbledon but I am getting fed up with slow play!

In what other sport do competitors get a 5 minute warm up on the playing surface? Shouldn't be allowed. And don't say squash because that is just to get the ball to the right temperature for normal play.

Worse though is the constant need to mop their brows with massive towels between points. This is becoming a joke! You don't get this in other sports, especially racket sports! Haven't they ever heard of sweatbands? I can't understand why the all-England Club allow it. And I pity the ballboys and girls, having to nurse soaking towels full of sweat. Horrible!

Lastly, I am sick of seeing the players ask for 6 balls, examine them all and then pick their two favourites before tapping the remainder back. Absolutely pathetic.

Overnight improvement can be made as follows:

1. No more knock-ups - just get on with the game. Professional tennis players have hit enough shots to be able to walk out and start.

2. No more towels! Get a sweatband on if you are all really that sweaty!

3. 2 balls per court. No more choices about which ones you like! Hit it and get on with the game FFS!

Nadal is the worst. Water bottles lined up, check shirt, touch nose, towel face, select balls, 10 bounces of ball before serve etc.

Since when did OCD become an essential part of the make-up of a tennis pro!?

It is almost too painful to watch....

Never really 'got' Wimbledon. I know plenty of people who have it as their sporting highlight of the year but I have never felt compelled to watch. Seems to me that the last 16, or even last 8 are pretty much sorted before a ball is hit. Then there is all the talk about it being the highlight of the grass court season. Surely this and the warm up tournaments the week before are the total of the grass court season. Also seems that every BBC TV and radio presenter is sent there for the whole week at god knows what cost. I really do not need to see/hear shows being presented from Wimbledon that could better be serviced by the studios (and do not get me started on Radio 1 sending everyone to Ibitha and all the festivals every year).

So, love most big sporting events but Wimbledon just does not set my world alight.

Tennis is one sport that I just can't watch on the box, it just seems tediuos. Some of the passages of play look like they're just having a breather mid-point.
It also irks me that Henman and Murray are practically National Heroes but havn't won a biggy. Golf has plenty of those and the rest of the world barely knows them.

I've got another one, get rid of the second serve.

BTW not really a tennis fan, but agree 100% with you Snelly - the choosing the ball bit is riduculous.....wasn't there a player who if they served an ace, wanted that same ball back for the next serve as it was 'lucky'.....barmy

Personally I find it the most boring mainstream sport to watch. At least nowadays we have 200 other channels to choose from. Back in the eighties it was a nightmare when half the viewable channels were constantly showing tennis for 2 weeks. I think that is from where my dislike for the sport comes.

I could do without Nadal picking his shorts out of his arse crack on every point too. You would think by now that Nike would have designed him some which don't ruck up.

Some tennis is great to watch......

Do away with the chairs and make them stand at the change over like they used to. That would get them back playing quicker. When I play I never sit at the break, but that is probably because I would never get back up again.

I have been to Wimbledon every year for the last ten years with my daughter, and it is a fantastic day out. It is a sport that it so much better live, rather than on tv. You are so close to the action, and the speed and power of the players is amazing.

Got to admit, I used to love Wimbledon, but have to agree, cant get into it any more for many of the reasons listed above...maybe they should have live hand grenades instead of balls, that ought to stop them messing about!

Ya not think pro golf has gone the same way tho Snelly.. alot of diddering around now between shots & pre shot routines ?? & it has filtered down to our level aswell .. watched a guy off 5 last week & his pre shot routine was teadiously slow ..i said to another member that if he's not careful he will actualy hit it today ..

I am not the best person to ask about any of the following: speed of play, pre-shot routines, juniors and trolleys, GPS systems or carrying 4 wedges. Plus loads of other things but these are current hot potatoes.

Nurse - my pills please................ :D

Rather narrows down the conversation on a golf forum then doesnt it ha ha :D :D should i ask about carry distances .. ok i wont just in case

Don't mind discussing carry distances as these are less subjective and invariably one of two things; stated incorrectly or made up.

Snelly.

Apart from a few carefully selected ladies matches, it bores the bejesus out of me. The way Murray is feted is laughable, won nothing of note, got to a few slam finals and then bottled it. The only thing in his favour is that he's not Henman. Surely there's no other sport in the world where mediocrity is celebrated so much by a nation

Hold on Donald and Westwood have never won a major, so are they mediocre like Murray ? :D

I was a ball boy at Wimbledon in 1982. Bloody hard work for us having to keep passing the towel on every shot. The thing bloody stank after a set too. I got the right arse chucking a ball to a pro and him hitting it back because he didn't want it. Why didn't he just ask me which one he wanted
