Will Westwood be the new Monty?

Yeh go ahead Mr attitude,as far as i`m concerned a player who does not win a major is not a champion golfer.END OF.............

Sergio Garcia is not a champion despite 10 European Tour wins and 7 USPGA tour victories?
Adam Scott is not a champion despite 6 career victories?

That makes them Champions in my book.

Now Monty with all his victories is quite clearly a champion and a victor having won numerous times.

This is getting a bit silly.

None of Monty, Sergio, Lee or Luke are champions, but Rich Beem, Todd Hamilton and Shaun Micheel are?

I really don't think so.

Some people just don't ken when to quit. Silly silly statement made by shivas. I think he's now using a JCB to dig the hole a wee bit bigger now!

I won our recent opening club stableford and also won our Boxing Day 3 clubs and a putter 13 hole joke comp thing......does that make me a champion?

Surely?

I have also netted a club championship....surely??

You've just taken that past the realms of possibility!

You have to remember that Shivas has recent history, on other matters, where he managed to talk out of his backside!

I can't see how you can class any golfer that has won as many events as both Monty and Westwood albeit Westwood has done it on a more global scale is not worthy of being described as a champion golfer. Look back over the history books at top players from both Britain and the US who won multiple times on tour but couldn't bag a major. Are they all really not worthy.

For my 2 penneth I think Westwood will crack a major. As Clarke proved last year, you only have to get lucky for four days. You could hardly say he showed any form before or after but did enough in the rounds he played to get it round in less than anyone else. It doesn't matter how as Woods has proved on many occasions

I don't buy this argument Westwood has done it on a global scale, he won a two bob event on the PGA way back and won a year or 2 ago in a play off, he has won European tour sanctioned events in the middle east and in South Africa where the fields have been average at best. Interesting to note he hasn't won a playoff since 1998 and choked in play offs in top events lately most notably when Luke Donald took top spot off him last year.

It could be argued Westwood has won nothing of note against top class fields since 2009.

Now I've researched Westwoods wins recently I'm even more convinced he won't win a major.

I would argue McIlroy is more a global winner, he has a major, he has wins in large PGA tour events, he has won a large European Tour event and has won in the Far East against a good field.

Not sure you can dismiss Westwood's chances that easily. As Homer J said you wouldn't have give DC a prayer of winning a major this time last year, but he did. He has to overcome his putting demons to give himself a better chance, but if he can. He putted at best average at the masters & finished 2 shots behind. Someone who hits the ball like him has always got a chance.

Difference with DC though is that he has always been a good links player something Westwood hasn't got in his armoury!

Looking at their records, Lee compares favourably with DC at The Open.
DC has 4 top 10's in 21 starts
Lee has 4 top 10's in 17 starts
Only difference is DC's win.
Lee's also won the Dunhill Links whereas I can't see that DC's won another "links" event at that level.

So not much to choose between them really.

England v Scotland has kicked off again, makes a change from Murray v Henman I suppose.

He also needs a caddy quickly after Billy done his knee in playing in a charity football match. They reckon he could be out for 6 weeks. It says that Fred Couples caddy is on loan this week, but he will need another caddy for the Players as Couples is playing in that.

How many caddies does Fred have, he always seems to be loaning them or giving them away?
