Will Westwood be the new Monty?

How many European Tour Order of Merits has Weestwood won?

1 I believe against 8 for Colin including 7 in consecutive years 1993 - 1999.

No room for Mrs Doubtfire,I'm afraid,Westwoods a class act,not a sulking tantrum diva,in fact lets talk about Paul Lawrie, did'nt he win a Maior, and he contnues to play well,Faldo took care of the adopted scot a long time ago...

Adopted? He was born in Glasgow.

I would go as far as saying Westwood aint even in Sandy Lyles league.

:blah::blah::blah:

Westwood's record doesn't even come close to Colin's. Keep taking your tablets.
Ridiculous statement,Westwood has been world no1 Monty hasnt,Westwood has won on the PGA tour Monty hasnt,Westwoods showing in majors is better than Montys. The only reason why Monty had so many Euro order of merit wins is because he didnt have the temperament to play against the best players in the world on the PGA tour so he kept "safe" on the Euro tour.Montys always been a bottler who cant take the heat playing the best players in the world,he never was and will never be will be a champion golfer. You guys dont know your golf if you think Westwood/Donald will never a win a major  .

European champion golfer of the year, 8 times and 7 of them on the spin.

I cannot go Monty but his record is there for all to see, his major record is pretty good with 2nd places in all but the Masters.

Colin had a great record in europe, but no PGA tour wins is a big gap in his career CV. Monty had 40 pro wins (including a skins tournament & a world cup pair win) compared to Lee who has 38 including 2 PGA tour wins. The odds are that Lee will add to this. Either way forgetting who you support & personalities this is pretty close. If Lee wins a major this will push him ahead I believe. Fantastic achievement of winning all those OOM's but easier to do when you build your schedule around being in on continent. Some of the fields he competed against would have been poor.

Who mentioned Luke Donald in this thread? Lose an argument so lets introduce another!

Westwood is a just as big a bottle bank as Monty was in the majors. The only Major Monty lost was the 2006 US Open to Geoff Ogilvy. Westwood did likewise at Turnberry when he bottled it big time by 3 jabbing the last when 2 putts would have been good enough for a play off.

Cant remember Monty bottling to many Ryder Cups, the biggest pressure in golf according to all the professionals that play in them. In fact Westy couldn't even handle being the standard bearer at Celtic Manor going game one and getting pumped by Stricker. I believe he lost 3 of the last six holes he played to Stricker throwing in a bogie double bogie combination as well.

When the pressure is on Westwood aint got it. That is the truth.

What an insult to the European Tour.

My memories going a bit these days.......anyone know the last English golfer to win The Open
If you want to get into this who`s the best English or Scottish elite golfer thing you have no argument whatsoever. Its always been a known fact that the scots always fall short in the world of elite golf.Apart from Laird(when was the last scot golfer on the PGA?) and Lawrie, there been no worthy mentions at all and these guys I have mentioned are not even in the same league as Donald,Westwood,Rose and Poulter and never will be, and as for Sir Nick Faldo, pleeese. You had your chance with "adopted" Monty but he couldnt take the heat.I think We have done pretty well considering we werent the ones who invented the game ;) .

Didnt Monty play in Europe around the same time as Seve, Faldo, Olly, Woosie, Langer etc etc etc

What an insult to the European Tour.

Not really just stating a fact. Some events Monty would have played in would not have had the top europeans playing in them as they would have been plying their trade elsewhere. His achievement is incredible & I am a fan, but a debate needs to be balanced & all the facts need to be clear.

Explain the adopted part please.

Really, you dont win the OOM by playing in small tournaments FFS, and certainly not for 7 years in a trot.

You really need to do your homework before throwing in stupid comments.

Russell Knox is from Inverness and has full playing privileges on the PGA Tour. The Australian Michael Sim was actually born in Aberdeen.

So England have 4 top players on the PGA Scotland have 1.

England has a population of approx 50m Scotland approx 5m, ratio 10:1 so by that logic i'd reckon English golfers need to up their game.

Add to that, isnt Justin Rose an adopted Englishman

;)

That man will win a major before wonderful Westy. In my opinion he's Engerlunds best hope of a Major. I'd also like to see Poults win one.

Totally agree mate,Monty would make up he`s earnings playing in some obscure European Tounament against a field mostly made up of rookies who couldnt get into the big events. Why on earth would somebody who is supposed to be one of the worlds elite do that?.If he was all that he should have played the best tour against the best golfers but we all know why he didnt and thats cos he couldnt handle it and took the easy option.
