• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Why is it ok for women to do this.

To me, this rule/ruling/approach both is and isn't about 'equality'!

Both Tours/Clubs etc both (equally) prefer players to be 'not scruffy'. The clothes Ladies Tour players wear (sleveless tops and shorts) that would not be allowed on Mens Tour do not look scruffy on Ladies, but very probably would look scruffy on Men.

So from an approach to tidiness po, there is equality. From the actual implementation as to what is 'tidy', there is inequality - because what looks tidy on a Lady may not look so on a Man. That's not discrimination imo!

Btw. After quite a lot of prompting, an old club allowed Men to wear ankle socks. That really just shows the vanity of Men though!

I don't see how there is inequality.

Men have a dress code and are expected to adhere to it.

Women have a dress code and are expected to adhere to it.

Have there golf shirts not tucked in?

I understand some of them they wear are too short to tuck in but i've seen a lot in tonights us open with shirts that are easily long enough to tuck in.

It's not breaking any rules but if Tiger played a round in the us open with his shirt untucked he would get slated for it.

Who's midriff woiuld you rather see? unfortunately blokes are generally more slovenly dressers so allowing 'shirts out' would lead to all sorts of horrible sights on the golf course - both sartorial and anatomical. We blokes do not all have nice neat 32" waists and care about our dress.

Also most men's shirts are designed to be tucked in , as they are quite long. So leaving them hanging out looks really scruffy

How can you suggest that woman play the equality game, they dont its as simple as that.Bring back banning them from cluhouses in fact what are they doing on a golf course at all :D

Easy solution for any man wishing to "untuck"...... wear a ladies shirt! :D
Or get snipping with a pair of scissors!

On reflection tho' , I think there are too many body tatoos around these days to avoid the "scruffy" look!

Very good point.

Earlier in the year I played a competition at a local club. On the evening after the first day all competitors were emailed that there had been complaints by some members about some of the clothes we were wearing. Frankly, nobody on the first day was wearing anything that made me look twice so I was very surprised. Some shorts were "too short" apparently but nobody was exactly wearing hot pants.

That kind of dress code should only be encouraged :smirk:

That seems rather ridiculous!

I think you should name and shame the Club!

Mind you, there are a few bodies, both male and female, I don't want to see much of!

In the big scheme of things it isn't a big deal what the women wear. A lot of them use their looks to earn big wedge and fashion is part of that. Turn it on its head and you could argue that OTT designs like the stuff Poulter wears have no place in the game either

Surprised at how many people objecting to women dressing differently to men.

I don't agree with the comments made about how tattoos have no place on the course. We're not in the 1920's anymore its a modern world and people need to move on with it just because someone has tattoo doesn't mean they aren't the acceptable sort to play golf.

But I would say that women look a lot smarter in collarless or sleeveless tops than men do after all we can be a scruffy bunch wearing a shirt and tie let alone a VEST.

Don't have any issue with the dress codes as they are on the course but would be nice to see more relaxed codes in some clubhouses.

Many Lady golfers do not have , how can I say 'Ehem! nubile body shapes, just as many Men dont. I find it hard to understand how it's OK for a lady to wear liner socks but not a man. In hot weather I would like to have a shirt outside my trousers but this is only allowed for lady Members. IMHO its either OK for either sex to wear collarless and sleeveless shirts or not.

The point made that Ladies look better in these styles is completely wrong as there are Ladies as well as Men that have body shapes that dont complement certain clothing.

For me it's equality or not. Dont even start me off on the Red or Yellow tees for Ladies in competitions.
