After recently getting the hump with gloves I have stopped using them saving myself nearly £100 a year.

I have actually not missed them at all and have not noticed any difference.

Why do we wear gloves?

Blimey how many gloves a year do you go through. In answer to the question, it's suppose to give more grip but whether it does or not is very conjective. From a personal standpoint, I've always used one and find it strange and off putting without it. Might be nothing more than a placebo effect but I find myself thinking about it if I don't have a glove in the bag

£100 a year?? What on earth are you doing to them? I buy the Srixon cabretta packs of 3 for about £18 and that easily lasts me a year.

I find for me i don't have to grip so hard with a glove on. Plus if my hand is slightly sweaty it won't slip on the grip. Weird thing is though on my short game I'm better with my glove off.

Most of the year - no gloves. Cold and/or wet - winter gloves.

Yeh, OK, they are black but with warm hands and a decent grip in the wet, I don't care. :)

I think the "1 glove" thing is just because the pro's do it. It also wastes a lot of time on the course faffing about taking it off, putting it on etc. Good business for the manufacturers though.

I will buy one every 6 weeks and my daughters will buy me one at xmas.

I suppose why so frequent is because they stretch or get dirty and I practice a fair bit to.

I also find if they have gotten wet they tend to dry out of shape,to me anyhow.

I have got wet weather ones but its a good saving and I have not noticed any difference at all.

As I said in a thread earlier...

Feels like someone else's hands holding the club when I am wearing a glove. Alien feeling. Hate it. No feel.

Probably a fair point with modern grips, I believe initially it was to protect the players hands from slipping and blisters from repeated swings, with the modern grips you probably wouldn't suffer same lack of grip or blisters.

Started to ask myself this very question.

I play full cord grips so grip isn't a worry.

I'll have to shift the 3 renaming Mizuno Skintite gloves I've got left.

Nothing better then putting a nice new white soft leather glove on just before playing.............

golf that is..... :)

I no longer wear a glove, but I'm expecting to have to wear on when I'm next playing in the rain. I don't miss the glove at all and it feels natural now. I gave up after struggling to find a good fit and I especially found the synthetic ones stretched in no time and ended up with the excess material bunching up under my fingers.
I think the wearing of a glove goes back to the old leather grips being a bit slippy. Nowadays it is just copying the rest of the flock. Save your money and go natural!

I badly burnt my left hand as a youngster and since then the skin on that hand blisters easily under friction, so I wear a glove to prevent it from happening.

I've never worn a glove or felt the need to do so, although after I felt the club slip when the grip got wet recently I have invested in a pair of Macwets for when it rains.

I wear titleist players gloves at £18 each. I guess I use one a month. I try to go naked in the winter, as once I stop having sweaty hands, they aren't really necessary.

Have never worn one and just don't see the point...except to have one hanging casually from your back pocket when putting.

Looks pretty cool and 'golfery' but beyond that can't see any practical benefit. :D
