Simple question really.

I've been reading through all these ridiculous posts and locked threads and mods fighting with forumers and watching the general havok that has been this week on the forum. I wanted to join this forum because, as a 'nomadic' golfer, I thought this would be a great place to meet some like minded golfers and get some games with new people, as well as learn a bit more about rules & enter some competitions (both 'free' stuff from GM & actual golf comps). I've not played a round with anyone on here yet, partly through moving home early this year and partly through not really knowing if this is the place to meet some new, like-minded golfers.

Why did everyone else join?

I also have a confession to make - I joined the forum before I signed up for GM magazine!

I was trying to get an answer to a question about shafts in wedges and this seemed a good place to ask. Had a look around and liked what I saw of the forum and within a few weeks was meeting up with a few like minded souls for a game :) Have been here since and without doubt the best part of the forum is being able to meet with such a cross section of different golfers at different courses, whether it be for a full on forum meet (like Woburn today) or just for a friendly 4 ball if someone is in the area or Im away from home and want a game

same as you really. to play golf with some decent people on different courses. I joined up and lurked for a while and then decided I wanted to become more active. They best way of doing this it to meet up & play with a few of the guys.

Also it's before I was a member of a club and it was a decent way to get in some extra golf:thup:

I wouldn't worry about the locked threads etc, it's always been this way, especially when the weather is bad, doesn't excuse it but may explain it

decided to take up golf and as a bit of a web geek looked for online forums for tips, advice and hopefully get a round or 2. Joined several at same time but found I spent more time here than the rest. still peruse the others but GM is my mainstay.

I have had some of my most enjoyable golfing days playing Forum Meets.

I have met people from all parts of the country, the great majority of which I would be happy to call friends (Ok not sure what I would call Smiffy )

I have been taken into the members Clubhouse at St Andrews for a beer, by a someone I didn't know, and whose only link was this Forum.

I have gone on golf trips with friends I have found on here.

I have played top courses as a guest of a member, rather than play as a stranger.

I have been involved in raising money for a charity, and then personally seeing how that money is spent on the most deserving of people. Truely emotional experience then, and just thinking about it now.

Why did I join the forum ? Sorry I can't really remember, but probably not for any of the above.

Could be that I got lonely at work...

Previously worked in a room of ten with 50% being 'golfers' so plenty of opportunity for chat about golf and what makes the world go around...

Now in a room of four with me being the only 'golfer'... So the only chat was about what makes the world go around and we agreed to often for my liking :(...

I just love talking about Golf, Golf courses, Golf clubs and & equipment. I'm not bothered about OOB stuff but it tends to draw you in.

hints and tips, equipment reviews, banter and to kill time before the next round, also to attend meets or at least games of which i think have attended 2 meets so far, played a few rounds with forumers since too.. and it has been a fantastic experience! so much so, i am toying with arranging a meet local to me later in the year.

Hopelessly addicted to golf and wanted to read and chat about it

Didn't reckon on the for sale section though , got some nice bats at nice prices , apart from my irons and wedges the rest of me bag has been bought off here
