Why are hybrids easier to hit than long irons?

I find it easier to hit a hybrid or a wood off the deck than to hit a 2 or 3 iron. I don't know why that is but it's not an issue for me.

Hybrids are more versatile than long irons.

There not, I don't carry a hybrid, I just don't get on with them, I hit a 4w well off the deck and then I'm down to a 4i.

I was always told you should swing a hybrid like a long iron, not a wood, but I just always hooked the damn things, although I've not tried one for some time now and would like to think I've improved somewhat since struggling with then, maybe I need to give one a go again?

I think you have to be careful about your choice of hybrid, because some of them seem to aimed at hackers who slice, and have too much offset and a closed face. These may cause a hook, so you need to find more neutral ones. My TM RBZ 2's are OK. :)

Quite! It would be nice to get away from this 'real men use long irons' and 'hybrids are only for women and old men' thing.

If I took the forum seriously this double standards would make me explode :D

Whats the rationale here, get rid of the comparisons you don't like but keep the ones you agree with!

I only said some of them, and for hackers who slice they may be ideal. I believe that Rory McIlroy and many other top pros carry at least one more neutral hybrid. :)

P.S. My natural shot is a slight draw that occasionally becomes a hook. :)

Classic stuff :D

What about cat 2 or 3 golfers who slice, could they use an offset hybrid or are they just for 'hackers'

"Hackers who slice" ?!

Could that be anymore derogatory

You post up a thread proclaiming the wonders of hybrids and how good they are and the reasons why

Then a week later you post up a thread asking why hybrids are so good ?! Did you forget all the reasons why they are so good

I think that Cat 2 and 3 players are more likely to have a controlled fade rather than a outright slice. Again, it's a case of finding clubs that fit you. One of my golfing mates is a fader of the ball and uses an offset driver. I have had a go with it and could hit it OK, but with a tendency to end up in the left hand semi-rough. I can't imagine that an offset hybrid is any worse than an offset iron.

I suspect you're deliberately missing the point

How can you object to phrases like 'Hybrids are for women & old men' which you clearly don't like yet only a few posts later on you used your own derogatory phrase 'offset hybrids are for hackers who slice' ?

I understand that about 90% of amateur golfers are faders or slicers of the ball, while the other 10% including myself are drawers or hookers. Nevertheless I have no problem hitting hybrids or fairway woods. I do try to select non offset/closed face ones though, which isn't always easy!

You didn't answer his question Del

As said your answer has now’t to do with the question so I’ll assume you’re not going to give one

Re your stats I’d be more interested in what % are,
  • Old
  • Women
  • Hackers

Of those above how many are,
  • old hackers
  • old women
  • women hackers
  • old women hackers

I appreciate you’ll need to remove yourself & your mates from the results
