The easiest option, and I can’t wait to see the furore on this, is to not accept paper scorecards. Only accept cards submitted through MyEG, or home ISV.

the only challenge would be submission of cards outside of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland….but I would imagine these are such a small % of submissions, it wouldn’t be worth stressing about.

Will now sit back and wait for the ‘but old people’ and ‘not everyone has a smartphone’.
I have a smart phone but do not use it for handicap purposes here in OZ, a lot of people use the OZ ap, but the direction from Golf OZ is the card over rules the ap.

Do not know how much you pay for the ap, some clubs in OZ put it on your subs and some do not.

But as you point out not all people have a smart phone, so what happens to them, told they cannot play in the comp ?

Here is a problem we had recently, internet was down, so ap unavailable, what is your solution cancel play till it comes back up?
Internet was down? As in the entire mobile network of the country? Or just the clubhouse WiFi?

I also mentioned for comps, paper cards are used. I specifically called out GP cards being app-only. Courses are responsible for then ensuring the app is allowing cards to be processed, or not, depending on course setup for the day.

Not the whole country, only West Aussie, they had a big show recently and advertised no cash, all on the card, system went down for 8 hours, people could not even buy a cup of coffee.

It does happen and I think it will occur more often, I always carry cash.

I've had the same notes in my wallet for about 10 months. Just in case. Worst case I can raid my Swindle winnings jar, though that's looking pretty bleak ATM.

Note from my place.

WHS is to INCLUDE scores in 4BBB as long as total score is 42 points and above and also one of the players to be on the card more than 9 times.

Cool !!!!!

Juanito the Bandito is not a happy bunny!!!!

England Golf will postpone the use of 4BBB competitions for handicapping if the technology is not appropriately developed to the required standard. Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure communication to all counties and clubs if there is a requirement to postpone the use of 4BBB scores for handicapping.

Whilst it may not be EG direct fault if the ISVs fail to build successful software in time, it is yet another exasperation that emanates from their direction.

Unless Juanito the Bandito ensures he only scores 3,4 and 5 pointers on 8 holes, and allows his partner to get 2's on the other 10 holes. That should still get them a pretty solid score :)

Both players should have the score on their record. Simples

All 4BBB competition scores will be on the record, but only players counting on 9 holes or more with an adjusted individual score or 36 or more points will have a Score Differential calculated to go towards calculating their Handicap Index.

If, on the 7th March, they're not sure if it will go ahead on 1st April - then it's not going ahead on 1st April.

EG headquarters is less than 30 minutes drive from my house, I've often thought it might be a nice place to work for a golf fan, so I keep an eye on their vacancies. However, they just seem incompetent so it's probably just frustrating! Maybe I'm better off keeping away.

So definite bandits/players playing better than their HI will be cut and 'semi' bandits or those trying to game the system will be available visible to the committee if they need reviewing. This is a really positive move and the sooner (hopefully by1/4/24) it is in place the better.

Nothing is ever changed from the outside. Think positive.

All the references here are to ENGLAND Golf. What about the other participants in GB&I, are they ready or is it just EG?
The work being done applies to the whole of GB&I as the unions all use the same software/database provider for WHS (dotgolf) and clubs use the same array of ISVs (Intelligent Golf, Club Systems, Golf Genius, HandicapMaster, etc.).

Well why announce it will be used then? Very odd

When I was handicap sec during the WHS transition, I was amazed at some of the decisions being made. There were so many problems that seemed easy enough to rectify before going live. They seemed to rush things out, when certain elements to it were clearly not ready. A lot of this may also be down to issues with the ISVs.

However, I know if you had any responsibility within England Golf Shep, things would definitely run very smoothly knowing you. So, keep your eyes peeled for any vacancies, I'd be happy to give you a reference.
