HNA app allows you to submit foreign scores. So does their website. Not perfect as 9 hole foreign scores were a problem. I say "were" as I haven't yet tried to submit a foreign nine after the 2024 rule change. I suspect it will be impossible :(

Submitting cards to England from abroad involves a 'photo of the card and proof of ratiings. Not a problem for me but must be a pain at the receiving end.
No, not really. Entering foreign scores is a simple process.

Terminal also doesn’t fix ‘away’ players submitting scores at a course.

Only accepting cards submitted via MyEG, it eliminates the issue of cards being submitted when a course is not deemed qualifying, as it is the course’s responsibility to ensure MyEG is correct.

We raised it with IG to allow guests to use the terminal to log on but it’s a pain

The APP is good , but most of the players looking to put cards in will have a smart phone etc

We have only had to put in “paper cards” from courses in Wales

Even though the courses are in MyEG?
That’s only been a recent update , they weren’t there at one stage and we have had members still have the odd issue

As well as some people playing with someone without the app

Get a smartphone.

They can be inexpensive. Pretty much every phone that is released is a smart phone, and has been for a number of years. Even the older members at my club have smart phones and know how to use them.

I’d probably say that if data could be provided, those aged 60 and over are not the ones submitting GP cards on a regular basis.

It’s the 21st century. The sooner we stop pandering and move into it, the better. One of the only ways is to cut the string. No more paper cards for GP submissions. I’d love to do it for competitions too, but that is a bit of a harder sell
Got it. So your answer is F 'em. :D

In the nicest possible way. Yes.

They’ll make up a very small number of GP scores. The sport needs dragging into the 21st century with stuff like this, and it won’t whilst it continues to pander to a minority.

Do you have any data or research to back up that statement? Or is it just guessing?
That’s why I said ‘if data could be provided’ as I doubt anyone has a large scale overview, aside from maybe EG in a slide deck somewhere that will never see the light of day.

4,781 GP cards were submitted by our club members from 1st April 2023 until 30th October 2023.

Average age of all GP submissions was 58 yrs, median age of submission was 59. So you could say that just under 50% of GP submissions were from folks older than 60. For reference the average age of the golfers at our club is 60.

If you plot the number of rounds by age and superimpose the age distribution of the membership on the same graph, you will pretty much see that there is a direct positive correlation between the age distribution of members and the frequency of GP submissions. To put it quite simply, old people are just as likely to submit a GP round as young people are. (at my course....others may vary :))

Perfect.

Even better. Means the oldies are already getting smartphones, and know how to use them.

Bin off paper cards for GP submissions.

Good to know the data is there or thereabouts if you need it

I don't like the scorecard emphasis of the EG app. When in England, my wife and I open the round before we leave home. Then we use a paper score card. Then, after the round, we enter the scores on the EG app whilst sitting in the car in the car park. Why can't we scan the card with the camera app to pick up the gross scores?

I don't see how that could possibly work. Even if OCR wasn't unreliable, scorecards are not uniform in layout and contain far too many other numbers for the appropriate ones to be picked out.
