I see that there has been an update to the WHS Resources

Acceptable Score Submissions

Dated 27th February.

I don't recall reading this in detail before, but there is a list of Requirements which includes: "Scores must be pre-registered on the day of play prior to the round". Quite clear in my mind that this is mandatory.

However it then states:

"A Committee may accept a score which was not pre-registered if all the above criteria are met"

How can that be? I must be missing something.

The only changes to the guidance since January 2023 are the additions of "/attester", the wholly superfluous word "strokeplay" in the table (detailing different stroke play scoring formats was already somewhat redundant), and 4BBB comp scores in the table (which should have been done last April).

The guidance states: "Scores must be pre-registered on the day of play prior to the round, by the means established by the Handicap Committee."
There may be circumstances that prevent pre-registration (by the prescribed method).

That’s a bit confusing ? Is there something missing

And pre registered can mean, create the card on the app anytime you like, but you have to wait the required time before you put scores in. As long as you stay close enough to the course (Or is this only on the Wales Golf App and it works differently in other regions?)

I thought before this went live, you had to actually "pre register" with the pro shop before playing🤣🤣🤣

Oh crikey, I posted on a whs discussion, I'm bound to be called something rude shortly.

Incorrect- you can register with the office or pro shop I believe

For what reason when the card is submitted via the app ?

Starting a card on either the app or ISV is pre registering for a GP card

The old days of the “red ( insert a different colour ) book” and then putting a card in the box should be long gone

you don’t need to register on a App to register a GP scores. You can and most do but you don’t need to. Maybe, for example, when the App isn’t working or you have no data?

Sorry - I didn’t k ow you were referring to your own club on a Sunday afternoon but even then I guess the pro shop is there (or even a barman).

are all clubs the same then? Some don’t even have mobile phone signal!!!

Don’t think I have ever been to a club without phone signal or at least wifi in the club to use

And even then if there is no signal just use the clubs ISV terminal

Not sure where to post this but as this thread is live it’s a good a place as any.

This is from the recent EG newsletter. I know a marker, according to the rules of golf, has to be someone “acceptable to the committee and not a referee”. However, apparently EG are now setting different stipulations for markers rather than the player’s own committee (bit in bold below), Who actually is in charge of their handicap?

Is this ok? Can EG decide? Shouldn’t it be the committee?

This isn’t about who your committee deems as acceptable, there are many versions, but who really controls player’s handicaps.

We know many of you like to take a trip abroad for a few days in the sun to play golf, but can you submit these scores for handicap purposes?
General play scores outside of GB&I can be returned to your home club within three weeks of the round being played. To ensure the score can be submitted, the following must be included:

  • The final adjusted score must be included within the scorecard
  • Where possible, scores must be countersigned by an official of the course being played (professional/manager)
  • Scores must be attested (marked) by a golfer who holds a WHS™ Handicap Index®”

That only applies to General Play rounds played outside of GB&I. The committee still decides what is acceptable for your home GP scores.
