When is a sandy par not a sandy par

Par on a hole including a shot out from a bunker = Sandy Par.

If you were a desparete kind of guy I could understand why you may well want to call it a sand save but We all know it's not and a real sandy par is by getting up and down from a bunker, meaning one shot out the bunker and the next shot in the hole for par.

By your logic, on a par 4, would a topped tee shot, then into a fairway bunker, then onto the green and one putt, count as a sandy par ?

Not a "sandy par" in my books, I would agree that up and down is what is required. Known as a sand save up here.

Can they not be different, to allow both scenarios to be valid... hitting a bunker and eventually getting par on the hole sounds reasonable to be a ‘Sandy Par’ irrespective of how many shots in-between; needing to get up and down out of a bunker to save par = ‘Sand Save’ (which would also be a ‘Sandy Par’ as well)

I think I’ll make that distinction in my head from now on... one more stat to add to the list!!

Just to throw a spanner in the works, if you are in a green side bunker on a par 5 in two then come out the bunker and 2 putt for par, is that a sandy par? :devilish:

Yes, it’s a Par with a bunker shot as one of the strokes.

Haha, this is going to rumble on and on and on...……………………………...

Yes

But not a tee shot that landed in the bunker then knocked out and then the next shot on the green and a single put on a par 4
