What's the lowest handicapper that you've played with?

This week I played with Charlotte Heath who's the 35th best amateur in the world and who was runner-in the European Amateur last month. She plays off +6 (PLUS SIX if you're reading this on a vidiprinter) which is ridiculous. Carried it 230 yards, missed one fairway, hit the green with 4/4 fairway woods and no side to her at all. Probably the most refreshing thing that I've seen in golf for years.
Lottie Woad is a member of my place (last week we gave her Honorary Life Membership) and I played 18 with her a few months back. As you say, these elite level girls are just brilliant in their length; their accuracy, and their general demeanour. And as much as a low score is expected around their home track (with me Lottie was 4 under gross off the gents back tees for those looking to pick holes), the proof is in the pudding. So to last Sunday in the 36 hole final of the British Junior Girls Open at Carnoustie, Lottie was 9 under par for 30 holes (at Carnoustie!) when she finished - winning 7-6. Over the 30 holes she hardly missed a fairway or par 3 green (and then not by much); then maybe only a couple of times missed the green with an approach shot, and wasn‘t in one single bunker all day. Similar to Charlotte Heath, Lottie is now +7.?.

One of our juniors is +3, shot a gross 65 on The Hotchkin on Monday in the junior open there. I guess most of you won’t have played Willow Valley in Brighouse, but if you have, you’ll appreciate that’s a pretty impressive handicap to play off aroun there.

A plus 2 junior at mine. Lots of good juniors but they all play together and have parents help find their balls and play at the end of the day. Read into that what you will….
This one plays with the “men” in the morning and concentrates purely on his game and has no help. Such a well brought up lad, humble and he’s that good it’s boring. ?

I once entered my lad in an Addidas Wee Wonders comp, guy I walked round with was sound, his son a steady golfer. They played regularly in these type of events and he was pointing out the parents that regularly cheated to hep their kids win. Honestly couldn't sit there and celebrate my kid winning a comp by cheating, but there are plenty of parents out there that will.

I’d love to hit every FIR and GIR and be a magician at putting and around the green…I’d love to be boring ?

Whenever I've played with really good golfers, the thing that stands out most of all is their short game. Chipping and putting will be deadly. They don't have to be particularly long, their short game makes up for any deficiency elsewhere.
Opposite for me. Any scratch or better player I’ve played with is usually at least 20 yards past me off the tee, they have all carried it at least 260 yards. Yes, their short games and putting are good but they are all so good off the tee, not only long but consistent as well.

Our incoming assistant pro is off +5 so would look to have a game with him at some time.

Did play with a European tour pro at a GM day in Lincolnshire once

I used to regularly play with +HC golfers. My BiL was off scratch and a lot of his friends were better. The lowest I think was +4.

They are all obviously very good at all parts of the game. However, the impressive thing about them all was their driving and approach shots. They could be a few under par playing what looked like easy boring golf.

Turned up to play at Hayling with Richart one day, we were playing against Gordon Ross and his "mate".
His "mate" turned out to be a young lady by the name of Louise. Played off scratch.
She was good. Bloody good. Played off the Whites with us, and matched us club for club.
One of the biggest laughs I've ever had that was.
Great fun.
She's a plus golfer now.

Played with a guy off +4 in our club championship a few years ago (odd that I was off 14 at the time, and were was a guy off 22 with us). He shot 80 and I shot 90, so can’t say I was hugely impressed!

OK - I didn't play "with" him, but I was in the field.

2001 County Championship at Willesley Park.

Winner - Gary Wolstenholme.

Course is par 70, but CR 71.4 and SR 127. Course has not changed in last 20 years.

His winning score - wait for it - 131 - nine under par for 36.

I think his morning score of 64 was a course record. Good time to do it, I suppose.

played with a plus 4 off the old handicap, and played with and caddied with pro's who have won on the US tour and the Euro tour, it always amazes me the sound of how they hit the ball to us mere mortals.

When I was a member at south staffs, Ian woosnam hosted an invitational tournament there. The day before, I booked in for a solo round, checked in at the pro shop to be told ‘one of the pros has booked in with you if that’s ok.’

Can’t for the life of me remember his name, he’s played on the European tour. Anyway, played 18 holes with him, total pleasure. Bricking myself on the first tee but he was very patient and encouraging, asking me questions about the course, what lines to take, where the misses are etc, tried to give me some swing tips, told me about life on tour etc. Loved every second of it. Watching his swing was awesome, but it was the putting and short game that stood out, totally different league to us mere mortals.

Determined to remember his name, I’ll be back when I have!

I played in a ProAm with Bernhard Langer about 35 years ago. He was pretty good. Best amateur I've played with, again many moons since, is Jimmy Feeney, who won everything in Derbyshire multiple times. He was probably only scratch or +1, but the handicap system back then was very different.

Play quite a bit with a former England player off +4. Ball striking and distance is scary. Not particulary accurate but will eat up all par 5's and short par 4's and hole a few other great putts.

I've mentioned it a couple of times on here but the best amateur I've ever played with was a lad who didnt have a handicap at the time but was off +2 as a teenager and used to be in Rorys junior team in Northern Ireland.

He just saw the course differently and was hitting shots I could only dream of.

The father in law plays off scratch at 58 yrs old still and set the competition course record off the whites at St Annes Old Links last year with a 66.

He doesn't carry a driver and isn't the longest but is metronomic with his FIRs and GIRs. Quite boring to watch really... and then you realise he's 2 or 3 under. His short game is phenomenal though, anywhere within 50 yards of the green and I'd back him to get up and down 9 times out of 10.

The highest PGA Tour scramble percentage from 30 yards is barely over 50%. If he's managing 90% from 50 yards he needs to get a driver in the bag and get onto the Seniors or Legends Tour :ROFLMAO:
