If there were no dress rules, what would you wear?

I tend to do other things on my way to and from the Club.

I don't tend to walk round Waitrose in tracksuit bottoms and a tee shirt on non- golf days, so wouldn't want to wear them on golf days.

The most 'formal' clothing I wear all week is when I play golf. I have always found it a bit strange getting dressed up to do my hobby :p

I teach PE so I wears sports clothing most of the time.

you make a really good point there. Look at cricket and how the clothing has changed over the years. It used to be quite hard materials, all white clothing, now look at the 20/20 uniforms, they are much more like coloured track suits. This is possibly what golf attire may look like in the future. You'll still have your bright colours for people to enjoy but it will be more functional for sporty movement.

Golf clothing is already functional. It could be different but it's impossible to see how it could be more functional. I've heard a lot of complaints from people after a bad round but never have I heard anyone complain that their clothing hindered them in any way.

I quite enjoy playing golf in the clothes I have now, I dont feel comfortable in jeans full stop.

I could imagine playing in my spongebob pj's though :D

Its interesting that the examples given of poor golf attire is always "Jeans". However if you watch the PGA and LPGA you'll see that relatively tight legged, 'jean' style trousers/pants are very common for both sexes. Some lady pro-golfers are close to wearing coloured tights - shame on them. Dear oh dear they also wear short ankle socks and ever shorter mini-skirts - it surely will be the end of golf: what will we do

The 'jeans' problem just seems to be the blue denim cloth which ironically can be more expensive !!

We ain't half a mixed up society with some stereotyped values; largely reflecting how insecure we are with allowing people to dress differently to ourselves.

I confess I make judgements by how a person dresses - but I'm quite happy for you to make your choices and you can wear what you like and hopefully I'm man enough to revise my first impressions if they're wrong.

What could possibly look smarter than a pair of Prince of Wales checked trousers and a white polo topped off with a nice black or navy blue Merino wool sweater.
Positively shouts "supreme golfer".

One of the poll options is Jeans so it's not unreasonable to expect some discussion on them
