What would you rather do????

I would love to be able to tell the difference between playing socially and professionally. Since playing golf for me it`s just a hobby and I don`t always find the time to strike a ball, I`m not sure I`ll ever be able to do this.

A friend or colleague I will be in their ear from the second hole.

Second hole!!

That's far too generous - putting green and at worst, first tee box for us North Westerners - even in comps, we go for each other but clearly would never do so with strangers.

One chap who posts regularly on here said after an almost super round that he wished two of his usual FC's had been with him, as the lack of mind games and banter actually served the opposite purpose and he had a nightmare last 3 holes - think he was going for his first ever level par round*. Said chap gives as good as he gets and missed the extra focus!

*pleased to say that soon after, he shot his first every level par round. If he see's this, he'll be along shortly to write a seven pager telling us all about it :D

"Have you always had that grip? t seems to work ok I guess." The seed of doubt has been cast...

On a serious note, good luck to them. Every dog has their day, and I'll warmly congratulate them on the 18th green.

Reminds me of gary from Derry that.

I jokingly said to him once on a par 3. Oh, I see you've gone back to that strong grip.

9 MONTHS LATER - he says, "Have I still got thst strong grip, I've been trying to loosen it, but........"

I couldn't believe it, still rib him about it now.

Did this mystical character also have a -1 round Wallasey a few weeks after that......:D

^^

The banter around the course does help me focus I must admit :)

I remember playing with James (JustOne) at Copthorne once.
I came out of the traps like a whippet, and was level par after 4 holes.
Stood on the 5th tee, straight away par 5 with no real danger, and he turned to me and said "I can't ever remember standing on this tee with somebody who was level par before".
How the feck do you manage to take a 9 up a straight away par 5??????
:mad::mad:

I've been hypnotised by the Smiffy black magic and he's a master (just a warning of you play with him this year... you won't even know he's done it but the ball will). Personally in a roll up game with some banter going on then I'd try and throw a line or two. In a comp, I'd hope the guy can keep it going and get a win or a good cut

Smiffers, you an evil man!

Has to be done Geezer.
I played a 27 holer with a high handicapper once. He had 23 points over the morning 9 holes with 2 blobs, and had exactly the same score on the front 9 in the afternoon with the same amount of blobs.
As he stepped up onto the 10th tee I said "you are going to piss this".
He had a further 6 points

No.
He was a youngster
;)

Your sticks in the bag keep kinda guy ;)

In all defence we have a kid at our club who shot 3 over gross off 14 in a monthly medal , he had spent the full 6wk hols playing everyday with weekly lessons and his game just clicked. Within 2 months he was cat1

Playing at Panmure with a mate, we were having a "skins" game, £1 a hole.
I stood on the 5th, a fiver up.
As I was about to drive, my mate said "You don't want to do what I did here this morning".
"What was that?" I asked.
"I came right over the top and went into the crap on the left" he replied.
I lost a £ on that hole

I like watching people play well. If they have an official handicap and play in enough comps that it actually reflects their normal play I can't see how you can be angry about it. I've shot over 40 points a few times to win comps, they usually either follow or are followed by a mid 20's. Sometimes it just all clicks.

When it's just a friendly knock though it all about having a good laugh. My only rule is don't give what you wouldn't be happy to receive.
