Having never been professionally fitted for a set of clubs I thought it best to ask what to expect. Considering buying new soon, but think the idea of getting a fitting would be the best first option.

Have you been done? What happened?

Cheers guys!

Where are you going? I've had it done via a local pro and at a fitting centre. Both tend to ask a few questions about your game, your shot shape, your bad shots etc. They'll watch you hit a few (make sure you've warmed up first) and then get some figures on the computer based on their trackman or whatever bit of kit they use.

From there its about finding the head/shaft spec you hit best and then looking at lie/length, grip size and all the refinements. Its a great thing to do and is very enlightening. If you are going to a company HQ (Ping in Lincs, TM in Cambs, Cally in Surrey etc) they do gibve you first class treatment

Fitted by the TM tour van on one of the demo days once. Had a chat to me about my game and how I normally hit the ball, how far etc etc, then watched me hit some with my 6 iron, and took some stats to look at what would suit me. They then gave me the same club but in 2 different fits to see which I hit best. Looked at some more computer stats and decided on the best fit for me. Then I tried that club in 2 different grip thicknesses. Finally they had the best club for me and I love them. The set I did have was half inch longer 1 degree upright. They fitted me with 1 inch longer and 1 degree upright. I can safely say I have never hit irons as sweet as the ones that the tour van set up for me......:whoo:

At Ping, they did the grip size and shaft length first, then some off of the lie board to ge the lie. Then onto the Trackman for the right shaft.

Sounds simple but theres quite a bit more to it than that.

Would also recomemend a putter fitting if possible.
