what stops you playing in comps?

The cost of membership at the moment, just not at a good place for the investment of time.

Would love to go back to the old routing of 2-3 comps a month

I'm pretty much exclusive to competition golf.

I play the odd round with friends every now and again and the odd 7 -10 holes after work however almost every week my name will be down on the sheet for the coming medal.

However I have been in that place where it feels like every week is a 0.1 and I guess that can lead you to asking why you bother.

Play as many as i can depending on my shifts but at least one a week, our squad is so competitive so that helps, we have a winter eclectic amongst ourselves to keep us going the winner picks up £120 so its competitive alright.

Used to miss about 10-15 weekend comps in Autumn/Winter by going to watch footy but can't be bothered with the travelling anymore so rain or shine Saturday is now golf comp day.

I paly in as many comps as possible around work and family commitments (hols, BBQ's etc etc).

That said I have one mate who really doesn't like singles comps and apart from keeping his card active doesn't play in many I try and keep a few days free to join him for a knock also. He struggles to keep a round going for 18 holes and just winds himself up if he misses out by 1 or 2 shots every time & ends up not enjoying it at all so tends to play more socioal golf as a result. We do team up for doubles and Am-Am's which he does enjoy so that helps a fair bit.

Quite honestly my confidence lets me down. I really don't enjoy them. I have a done a few this year and my handicap has come down but this is mainly due to a few high flying efforts rather than a steady performance. Hate playing with some single figure golfers or other good players as I feel I am holding them up and ruining their game. It is something a need to get right in my head and must try to overcome the 1st tee nerves on every hole :) However I must add I really love the game and actually enjoy social golf

You shouldn't feel like this.

Speaking for myself, I would rather play with a high handicapper who is:-

Quick, has good etiquette, is good company and ideally is a good laugh.

Than:-

A surly, slow, miserable low handicapper.

Even if they're a Man U fan. :whoo:

Matt do yourself a big favour, all the NW lads are like this as well, so get yourself down to a meet, you'll never look back.

I play as many as possible and will play as many qualifying as possible , so if theres a 4 ball or team thingy in my club and singles qualifier near enough il be gone to qualifier ( got restricted this year due to a good club team run) , that wont be happening next year

our weekly (1 medal per month, 3 SF) comps are on Tuesdays, the only day thats a pain for me. Sunday comps are usually board one or stuff, i dont bother with them. I am not bothered about winning the comp, just beating my handicap.
