Back in the day I could play to a half decent level game of tennis and squash... I could, on a good day, trouble the recognised best players at my club at least... Anyhow herself and I would play the occasional 'friendly' game of badminton and for all the years of trying I never once won a game... I mean who wants to be beaten by a girl?

Oh dear you have opened an old wound for me. Back in the mid 70's I had just taken up squash & booked a court at the Country Club when at the last minute my pal cried off. From the gallery above a female voice enquired if I was looking for an opponent.

I readily agreed fancying my chances of some easy victories.

Some chance! She was on the verge of international recognition and I was lucky to score nil points. In under an hour I had been whupped 9-0, 9-0, 9-0.9-0.

Never was I so glad to hear the buzzer at the end of my booked hour.

Called into Diego Garcia when I was in the Navy and played in a hastily arranged football match against the Royal Marine detachment there (much to the amusement of the hordes of US service personnel stationed there).We weren't a big ship's company so it was a fairly makeshift team. It must have been about 35 degrees but we managed to hold our own for the first 10 or 15 mins but then their somewhat superior fitness started to tell and we got absolutely murdered. Managed an honourable half in the after match drinking though.

14-0 at football. Night before a cup game to the top of the league team our management team decided to hold a race night in the local. 5am we all left, totally blootered to a man. Only 10 turned up for the game, 6 still drunk, a few probably mildly poisoned...

Ref took pity on us and abandoned the game after 30 minutes (yes it was 14-0 after 30 mins) due to 4 of our players leaving the pitch to throw up.

Banned from the next years cup for causing the abandoning of a game :thup:

A ref once abandoned a game I was playing in when one of our players puked on the edge of the pitch!
