Is it another brand new ProV, Penta, NXT or Warbird, or is it some manky old thing that you've fished from the bottom of the bag..? Or is it somewhere inbetween..?

I have an assortment of slightly dodgy ProV-type and NXT Tour type ready depending upon circumstances. I wouldn't want to use a ball like the AD333, for example, as I don't use that type of ball and if I had a chip'n'putt for a point in the Monthly stableford, I'd want something that I'm at least familiar with...
As I have the wonderful skill of regularly losing my provisional, I don't use a new ball!

usually a brand new ball. I use three colours of sharpie for each sleeve so even if number is the same then the colour I mark the number is different. Then I always load 3 different balls into my gokart bag ball silo so no need to rummage.

ProV1s as a provisional, Tour B330S as my ball of choice. Never understood why anyone would use a crap ball as a provisional?

I always like using a new ball when I start a round. I will also put a "frightener" in my left pocket just in case I have to hit a provisional as it saves me walking back to my bag.
The frightener is usually a new ball and will be a different make to my orginal, or at least a different number if the same make! I like to hit the lower number first so I can remember which one I'm playing!

I'll tend to put a yellow Z-Star in my pocket as a frightener if I'm playing with a white Z-Star and vice versa.

No arguments then about which is your provisional! :D

Can see your point. But I don't have any yellow balls!
I like to use a number 1 ball for my 1st and try to have a number 2 as my 2nd

I would never be that organised to play a particular number. Do you make sure you carry balls with 3, 4 & 5 on them just in case?;)

I always buy my balls by the dozen, and the four sleeves will normally be numbered 1,2,3 and 4.
When I load up my bag, I will stick half a dozen in there and make sure I use sleeves 1 & 2, or 3 & 4 (if that makes sense) so it's not too difficult to sort.
If I can't find a number I want, I'll use a different make. There are usually 2 or 3 different makes of ball in my bag

One of the same in a comp (prov1x) normally my provisional ends up where I intended the original to go :(

If it's doubtful because of poor visibility I.e. Low sun or rain then a yellow or orange ball.

Cheers

Steve.

If I need a provisional ball will be a scruffy used ball that's one step away from my practice bag. However it will be a 'peformance' ball. Current ball of choice is the Taylormade Penta, and the only balls in the ball pocket are new and used Penta's.

If the first ball isn't found the provisional will be changed on the next tee for a new ball.

All my balls (AD333) are marked the same.

If I have to hit a provisional, I make sure its a different number.

If I dont have a different number, I'll alter the making (add another colour'd dot) to distinguish it from the original.

always use the same as what im playing with , just an older one. I always ensure i notify my playing partners of its number and show them to so not to confuse either ball ;)

I normally use a crappy old ball as my original, and a brand new one as my provisional cos I never lose a provisional, they always seem to go down the middle of the fairway!

Over this side of the pond iv been playing for the past few months with used ProV1's....I couldnt justify buying them spanky new....

At the moment JJB are doing a box for 16 euro a dozen or 2 for 25 euro which i think is great value...
So i dont mind loosing the odd one of these as they are cheap and 9 out of 10 times i keep my provisional in play.
