today i tee'd off at 12.15 (4 ball) two of the guy's in my group where playing a comp. there was 3 X 4 balls behind us and two infront. by the time we got to the 10th it became apparent that we might not finish the round due to bad light. this was because the group at the very front had a newbie with them and was playing extreemly slow. by the 11th 3 groups including mine where stacked on the tee box waiting.

the 12 of us had a debate. should the group at the front allow all the groups to play through and not finish their round. or.....sod everyone else, they pay their membership so why should they not finish, we where all begginers once

i personly think they should let the whole field play through and not finish because of bad light. i would feel bad if 20 people missed out because of me.

They should have been letting groups through as soon as it was clear the other groups would play faster. Bad ettiquette.
Had a similar thing on Monday. PLaying solo, I got through one 2-ball but then came up against 3x3balls and didn't get let through. Didn't matter as I was taking my time.

I would have been shouting at them to let me through, plane and simple!

Common sense.

Should have let you through. Slower groups should let faster ones through, and having a beginner in the group they should have realised they would be playing slowly. The fact they are members is irrelevant, it's basic etiquette. How much ground did they lose on the group in front? If they had a clear hole in front then no excuse in my opinion.

Spot on by everyone. There is no way there would have been 3 x 4 balls waiting to tee off due to slow play of a group in front. I'd have been complaining bitterly.

u should have just cracked one right over there heads and said were playin threw ...that`s how real men north of the border deal with slow play gcd :D :D

No way!

If they refuse to let you play through, just call up the clubhouse and get them to send a marshal out.

i did feel like complaining but it was my first round as a new member. didn't want to make a name for myself (i already went nutts at a guy for opening his car door into my new audi (unknown to me it was the vice captin :o) as it happend my group finshed (just) but 2 groups didn't. i think there where a few cross words in the club house. so far i've noticed that playing through seem's to be a sensitive subject at the club i dont know why.

Vice captain or not, hit my new Audi (if I had one) I'd have made sure the chunt was paying for any damage!

What a rank rotten club that is ,i'd get my arse out of there pronto,up here if your playing slow you get told about it pronto

Presumably you had parked in the captains parking space ? :D

If the group in front have lost a hole, you should have told them you want to play through. Some golfers are oblivious to anyone else on the course, so they need to be told. :(

It would be interesting to know how much ground the group with the newbie had lost with the group in front of them.

They should never be more than a hole behind so should step aside and play you through. I think if I was really sure that they were slow (and not being held up themselves) I would definitely of got close enough to ask to be let through. Sometimes people just dont have a clue about etiquette.

Sadly at every club there will be a minority who just don't let people through. It's a fact of life. At my club I could reel off a list of about 20 of them. They have never let anyone through, and never will. Changing clubs isn't the answer. These idiots are every where.
