Had an absolute stormer for 14 holes earlier this week, managed to break 40 on the front 9. Stood on the 15th tee 4 over gross. Then just seemed to completely crack on the 15th taking an 8. It is one of the harder par 5's on the course. But can usually make it in 3, driver/3wood 7 iron lay up to water and wedge on. But cracked under the pressure of knowing my score. Eventually walking in 12 over gross. So a nett 65. Beat my personal best by a shot which I was happy enough about. But as I'm now sat by the pool abroad with a San Miguel in hand, I still can't help but think what could of been. Anyone just not bother counting up on the turn? Or do you just try not to think about score? Definately influences how I play certain holes on the course. Do the rest of you tend to play and protect a good score? Or play your holes in what you would class the stock way clubbing wise unless something goes drastically wrong?

Indeed! Wish there was! I felt that much pressure after my first bad hole I virtually went back to feeling like I had just started again swing wise. Was almost hitting the ball and praying it went somewhere near where I wanted. Thank god I don't score well every week, I'd be a nervous wreck!

i dont add up i use a different method of scoring ,yeh i know sounds wrong but i do it like this
i play off 14 so i start my round 14 under par ,and keep count of how many im under par as each hole is played.if i bogey a hole then im only 13 under and so on .
i just hope im still under par at the end of 18 holes.

The more you do it the better you'll cope each time. Shane Lowry will now be a little bit better equipped to deal with leading in a major, and DJ benefitted from being in that position (and blowing it) previously.

A lot of people think it's only for the pro's and low handicaps, but this is where a good pre-shot routine can help. If you practice it often enough it makes playing a shot almost automatic so you don't have to think about it. That's the key, clearing your head of how to hit the ball whilst you're stood over it.

Personally, I like knowing my score and whether or not I'm doing well. You have to be able to forget about it when it's your turn to play though, and not start thinking about what score you'll end up with or how many you're going to win by.

I don't add up after 9, generally I don't bother with a score card unless in a comp. as I'm going around I make sure I remember how many times I putt on each green, the drives and approaches are easier to remember. Then I just add up when I'm finished.

The he putting isn't too hard to remember either, you don't forget 1 or 3 putting!

This is a bit like a 'flag' competition I once played in. Each competitor is given a small flag on a stick and you get as many shots as the par of the course plus your handicap so a 10hcp on a par 72 course would get 82 shots. You play your round then stick your flag in the ground where your 82nd shot finishes, the winner is the person who gets furthest round the course. If you have any shots left after putting out on 18 then you carry on from the 1st tee again.

Quite good fun and a bit different to your normal comps.

I like that a lot!
