I made the Mrs hot milk last night and put a different mug to normal in the microwave for 70 seconds. When i took the mug out the handle was red hot and the milk cold. I dropped the mug but I got my finger stuck in the loop of the handle and burnt my index finger and thumb quite badly! I gave the Mrs the remainder of the drink and I kid you not she said “has the tide gone out?!” I had my right hand in a bowl of cold water for 2 hours for the pain to ease. I now have 2 blisters both the size of a 2p piece! Nice padding for my first medal tomorrow, don't you think? Lol Any advice on what to do. I was thinking of piercing them and taping my finger and thumb up as the blisters feel too spongy and will probably burst after the first shot anyway! Suggestions please.

Simmer it in a pan....never boil it,always simmer,oh and make sure your pan has a spout for pouring.

I use Germolene, you apply it over a blister with a small brush similar to a nail varish applier.

It provides a protective cover over the blister. I actually keep a small bottle in my bag.

Shouldn't cost you more than £3 and I got mine from tesco x

Nar, Burst them, Peel them so they are red raw

soak them in a saline solution

Tape them up as best you can

Down a few pain killers (actually this should have been before the saline bit)

Couple of nips of the hard stuff and off you go, play a blinder

no need to thank me

Seriously , thats not good, just do what you can

Feel for you

Cut a finger of an old glove and tape it on to give you some more padding. DO NOT POP THEM! it will slow down the healing and they will probably become infected. Make sure you cover them up with some proper blister stuff, and try the glove tip, a mate played a whole season like it after he nearly cut his finger off getting grass out the lawn mower blades.

How can you NOT pop them?... first decent swing and you'll probably hear them go bang!

I'm not a good one for medical stuff (as the rest of this post will prove) but it's my belief that blisters are natures primary way of taking the heat out of a burn and that's about all (It doesn't KNOW that you are anywhere near a cold tap when you burn yourself!). Of course it provides a barrier to stop infection but that's it's secondary purpose...and we have drugs for that :)
I'd pop them and tape them to avoid that skin-rub feeling.
If not you'll be crying like a girl after the 1st hole when they've popped :)

Hey... let us know either way :D

NB: Of course if your whole body was covered then that would be SLIGHTLY different and I'd suggest you only play the front 9 ;)

Get yourself to Boots the chemist and make sure they have Compead. Burst the blister remove skin and apply Compead plaster on to blisters. Job done, the plaster creates a skin like barrier and helps heal the blister.

I normally get blisters on my heals if I look at a new pair of shoes, I don't even have to buy them. Compead always comes to the rescue.

If I were you DOC, I wouldn't let your patients know your asking for medical advice on a golf forum.
Go and see an expert like a firemen. They must be used to dealing with plonkers with burns :D :D :D

:D :D :D Thanks for the tips. The one on my index finger (which is almost the whole circumference) has lost its spongyness so i will leave it and just tape it up. The thumb one will need the fluid removing and i'll get some compeed. I don't use a glove so can't cut one up but i have an old marigold so that will have to do!! Just call me Doc pink fingers!! ;)

Burst 'em!!!

Split 'em open - pour on some iodine - that'll sort 'em out.

That's what I used to do in the SAS.........

N.B - Don't let that become common knowledge - I don't want everyone to know. :D

Ok here is how my day went:
went to chemist and bought Germolene, clear film plasters and plaster tape- total cost £9.80.
After close inspection my index finger blister was very saggy and likely to rip with my first swing so i decided to pierce it and remove the excess skin. Underneath was a very red bit of flesh which i applied the germolene. Now at this point there was a brief pause before the pain hit me with a thud. It lasted a good 60 seconds and felt like a flame was burning my skin!!! i then taped it up with the clear plaster and applied the outer tape. I chickened out of doing the thumb the same way and just pierced the blister and taped it up with clear and outer tape.
My first tee shot was aprehensive but went without pain so i was happy. After 9 holes i realised i had taped them up too tight as the end of my finger was blue and with the rain and sleet the tape was coming loose and i had to apply more. I couldn't feel my digits by the end but i finished on my handicap with a 79 gross net 71 with 6 (yes 6) 3 putts due to the greens being so sluggish with all the water. Walked in the clubhouse pleased with the performance and to top it all i came 1st!!!
Now on my 5th pint trying to muster up enough courage to remove the plasters!!!

plasters removed and the thumb is still in good nick but my index finger looks like i've dipped the tip in a jar of hot jam!! i wish i hadn't cut the skin off now!! i have reapplied the clear plaster and hope it will heal soon. Also on closer inspection of the damn mug it had a crack in the handle and has now been lobbed in the bin!! :D
