Board comp this afternoon, i was really looking forward to it and thinking Ihad a good chance.

The result a nett 89, 3 lost balls, 2 unplayable lies, several rubbish shots, I had a 8, a 9, a 10 and a 12.

I did play some decent holes but I was so inconsistant, especially my driving.

I can't use the word I was going to use but I've worked out over all my years of playing golf that the amount you are looking forward to playing is inversely proportional to how well you play. I sometimes think if I could find a way to dread playing, I'd be brilliant at this game.

I'm not sure if this makes you feel any better but I'm sure everyone here can relate to how you are feeling right now

I am like that every medal nigh on. Play great beforehand then a couple of blow up holes early doors and my card is wrecked.

Its all part of the learning curve apparently...

Theres always next week :)

take the positives - an 8, 9, 10 and 12 sound pretty consistent :)

I can say this with a laugh because I had 6s, 7 and 8 in the seniors board comp last week and was forced to take the same positive!

Keep smiling and things will get better , I played yesterday, my first game in a long while, due to bad back.

First hole I got a par  thought to myself I should have a lay off more often, 2 nd hole a 9  3 rd an 8

Then I really started to play bad

Still a nice day out and a good walk

Have you not noticed how I come off the practice ground before every rond thinking the end of the world is nigh. Lo come the round and it suddenly doesn't seem too bad. Cunning plan

During a lesson the pro was saying about "expectancy", your trying to do your best, trying too hard.
The best way i found (and a few society members)was to have 12ish pints the night before, you expect nothing, your relaxed (rough) and normally goes ok.

I feel your pain, I had 2 great 9 hole sessions this week. The work from my recent lesson was really bedding in and I played both 9s under my handicap. I turn up on Saturday morning for a medal and score 7s on the first 4 holes. Calmed it down with a 4 then hit an 8 on the next hole. After that I played pretty well but by then it was too late and my card was over.
