I live in Somerset

Where I play is in Dorset

The club is just ten yards the other side of the border.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

At its closest point.

At least in Scotland we can travel up to five miles beyond the boundary of our Local Authority Area for exercise including golf. :D

Around this area we have a few clubs close to tier borders and many members who can't play their own course. Our GM sent out an email last night saying he was going to contact other local clubs to see if some sort of temporary reciprocal arrangement can be put in place to allow as many local golfers as possible to be able to get a game. Great idea, hope the other clubs are up for it.

I don't really understand how it's being policed? If you were to just play your course, because you've paid your membership and you want to play, what would happen? Who would know? Genuine question. Are the clubs physically not letting people book times based on their address?

Not sure about physically blocking, but we had an email from the club saying that those in tier 4 cannot play. When the club got moved into tier 4 the other day an email came out welcoming back all our tier 4 resident members

Your GM sounds very forward thinking, almost a temporary reciprocal set up. He may lose a few members, he may also gain a few members, but either way these are strange times and I 100% support this decision.

Which is what we did in Wales in the Autumn variable lockdown when you had to stay in your county.

Its bloody mental. Played this morning and the course was rammed, unsurprisingly being two balls only. Most of the people playing seemed to be guests though. Had at least 3 groups asking us where the next tee was or which green they were playing to. Maybe Dibden and the muni being closed is affecting it?

One of the things that happened yesterday was that the club was closed to all visitors as there is no way of proving where they live and in all probability would be from Somerset, particularly those just using the range.

They can check the members easily, all tee times have to booked.

What will happen where I play is that the bookings will be checked and the booking removed if not allowed. There is a threat of sanction but not what, probably up in front of the Captain's committee who will decide.

Think that's a poor move. Our tee times are pretty fully booked everyday and members wouldn't be overly happy if spots were going to visitors. Our pro shop isn't even open at the moment and can't see the office wanting to do the admin on green fees turning up (if they even paid)

We have BRS for members (and guests) to use, and they always reserve a block for the seniors/ladies/regular groups morning meets. Guests can book/pay online and the office is open to take green fees so I can't see a problem. If it ends up attracting new members due to the mytime courses being constantly closed due to waterlogging then it has to be a positive for the club.
The mental comment was of how busy we are now we are in tier 4, along wiht the rest of Hampshire. Suddenly all those people from over the city border can come and play whereas they couldn't last week
