Hoping to get married next year. Thinking of somewhere around the med, Cyprus, Malta or Greece high on the agenda but thinking maybe Spain or Portugal as well. Anyone done this themselves?

Not quite sure on all the stuff involved.

Any advice appreciated.

A lot of places insist that you have been resident for so many days I think so not as straight forward as you may think.

Pal is having a ceremony in Tuscany next July after getting wed in Scotland and I'm sure for him to get wed there was complicated....must be some website that could help I'm sure if your stuck.

I got married in Florida and we had to be there 3 full days beforehand, we used Virgin how pretty much organised everything except the fact that she turned into a raving lunatic but at least I got a nice holiday :D

How about on a P/O ship, seen a few weddings onboard whilst on holiday, and you can visit all the countries you mentioned :)

I read about some of the residency things. some places are 3 days some are 7 but we are planning 2 weeks anyway so that's no big deal. When we choose I'll be checking out some golf options as well ;)

Don't like the idea of a cruise but want warm. Thinking September or October so we are off peak but still get nice weather.

We got married on Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa, best decision we could have made as it turned out. We thought about Vegas or a cruise in the Bahamas but chose Cyprus as we have been there several times before.
We stayed in the Nissi Beach Resort and had a beach bungalow for a fortnight.
If I remember rightly you need to be there 5 days before you can be married. You go to the town hall and register and book a time and the district representative comes out to marry you at your location.
Photographers are not as expensive as they are at home, dont take all of the options as they will throw in some freebies regardless.
If you can, get the ball rolling beforehand by emailing the civic folks.

Just found these from the hotel where we stayed.
The place is exactly how it looks there, really lush colourful and fairly private.

I'm getting married in mexico in 2013. We have to be in the country for 5 days before we can get married. We also need to have blood tests too.

I got married in the north east and we were super lucky with the weather on the day of the wedding and the following week spent in the lakes. Other weddings I've been to this year weren't so lucky so I guess if I had my time again I would get married abroad.

This in mind I couldn't recommend Cyprus enough. I was best man at my mates wedding in Paphos 2 years ago and we couldn't have had a better time.

We stayed at the same hotel as them (Athena Royale) and had the best time, making the most of the time as a family holiday with a few choice mates. We thought it was win win as we had a holiday and I done my bit on the day (got slightly drunk and left it til the last minute to get the groom and father in law to the event).

My only gripe was the location of the hotel as it was a good 20-30 minute brisk walk to the Paphos harbour. We usually try to be a little more central but I guess the high end hotels tend not to be right in the middle of town.

Cyprus is really tempting us I must say. I see there are plenty of golf courses there as well ;)

Nissi looks awesome! Fortunately we have the photos sorted at no cost where ever we go. Others half's Dad does photography and has insisted he does it for the wedding.

Liking what I'm hearing so far guys.

We are going to Cyprus next year for a friend's wedding.

They're getting Married at The Olympic Lagoon Resort in Nissi Bay. It's just had a multi-million ££ re-furb and looks unbelievable.

We're staying there for two weeks, 5 star all-inclusive and attending the wedding there. The wedding package looks pretty awesome I have to say. Might be worth looking into.
