Without starting a new thread, could anyone recommend any waterproof trousers that can be worn on their own during winter. Not a fan of the over trousers and would just prefer to wear some decently warm waterproof trousers during the winter so I'm always prepared for some rain. Plus I think black waterproof trousers look pretty smart!

Regarding the ProQuips...........I would size down 1 as they have a elasticated band around the back. That way you get a nice slim fitted look instead of looking like sails on a boat.

In the depths of winter I wear thermal tights under waterproof trousers, Proquip 360 in fact. This way I am always warm and if it rains ive not got to quickly chuck on over trousers. I'm a 32 waist and have got the Proquip in small as they have a nice elastic band which fits nicely and as mentioned above they don't look like wind sales.

I've also just bought some Ping Altitude trousers from Next as I had some vouchers and these look like they could be quite good. Not sure I'd of stumped up £120 for them in cash.

I have an old set of paramo cascada trousers for just this sort of thing. They're not cheap (you can probably get some for about £80 if you shop around online), but are warm, waterproof and breathable. They also have good venting so that you don't get too warm. Pretty bulletproof and can take any amount of washing. Just reproof them with nikwax every now and then.

I bought what I think is last years Mizuno suit for about £75. Quite liked the fact the zips for the trousers were on the inside of the leg, makes it easier taking them off on the course. Very good at keeping me dry, very light weight.

2 moans though. 1) slightly on the warm side. 2) The middle of the jacket pops out between the arms when putting/ chipping and gets in the way slightly.

Conicidentally I have today signed for receipt of my new watrerproofs. I've gone for the Nike Hyperadapt . After doing loads of research and not quite having the £600 required for the full GG suit is opted for these. The quality and feel of the material look excellent and while "dry swinging" it very comfortable with no noise to speak of. Happy so far but will know more once the apocolyptic rains come .

Strangely, following this thread I took the dog out for a walk, and as it was lashing down, I put my Golf Waterproofs on. The jacket did well, but the trousers leaked at the knees (I presume because it was rubbing as I walked.

Won't be impressed with that on the course I tell thee. Thumbs down for Mizuno there!

Ive just got some Galvin Green Alfs,I'm like you don't want to wear them over trousers. Only used them once and they were fine on there own.

I have a Pro-Quip suit that I bought about 4 years ago off of the bay and it's superb. Has never let a drop of rain in and fits like a glove...I did buy the jacket and trousers separately though so that helped!
