Currently in the market for a new set of proofs bit not sure which way to go. Last year I got battered in the bad weather as my course is high on the Surrey downs and very open. Currently got a set of goretex proquip but due to a hast but it doesn't fit overly great. I've noticed the newer range seems to be sold individually which should mean better fitting, but is there any other good quality lower even brands.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the tour flex 360 range, just wondering about brands such as Sunderland or sunice itc

Think Galvin Green are the best if you can afford such things, but Sunice are very good. I've a Sunice jacket and it will stop all but the heaviest downpours.

Cheers for the suggestions, re GG I just don't see it worth the extra money over some of the other brands. I'm far from a fair weather golfer but likewise I'm also not a die hard that must play no matter what mother natures mood is like.

Something to hold out the heavy showers and wind that fits well in the leg area with room across the shoulders to actually move would be awesome.

I have a pair of Sunderland trousers which are excellent. I use a lightweight ping jacket as I don't like anything to heavy but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Sunderland one based on the quality of the trousers. Also have a proquip non goretex suit which is also excellent.

I've done a review on the Adidas trousers which are very good, a mate of mine has the top that he isn't overly impressed with as he says it doesn't fit well and water funnels in through the next area. I've got a Nike Hyperadapt top which has not let any water in the year I've had it and has stretchy areas where needed so there is not much restriction and no rustling.

I looked at Galvin Green but couldn't get a jacket that fitted well.

Ended up with Footjoy full zip jacket and also bought a half zip lighter weight one - got both in sales for half price and they've both kept me absolutely dry.

Trousers I bought are Pro Quip Aquastorm, they've got a fly zip and belt loops and they are superb

Proquip are a good, solid, reliable brand that offer strong value.

Anything with Goretex in is excellent.

I have a GG jacket, goretex, and Proquip trousers. Neither have ever let me down no matter how intense the rain and both are 5yrs old now.

Gavin green jacket I own is good (treated to it as a present) so far but I have Sunderland pants which have never let me down. I did have a Sunderland jacket too but with my weight loss the size I need was too short in the length and the large I had was too large. My Scottish friends all wear Sunderland waterproofs and they are a lot cheaper than other brands.

The adidas GoreTex range is as good as my GG stuff, although slightly warmer

Last years' range can be picked up for around £115 for the jacket and £95 for the trousers

I've had a few waterproofs in my time and my current Galvin Greens are the best by a country mile.

I'm not necessarily saying that GG is better than anything else available as I haven't tried everything, but I can say for certain that I will only own Goretex waterproofs from this point forward.

I have a non-Goretex walking jacket and I think its days are numbered.

Ps. I've owned my GG jacket for probably 10 years and it's as good as the day I bought it. So, whilst they are expensive, find last years colours / buy at discount and they work out very economical over the life of the product.

My GG jacket and trousers are 12 years old and still rain proof. In that time they have been in the washing machine. As long as you put them in the tumble drier to revive the proofing their fine.

Great value in my opinion.
