It would be interesting to see where the crossover between par 3 and 4 would be for tour pro's (and 4 & 5 for that matter). The hardest Par 3 on the PGA tour is at muirfield village and averaged 3.36 I can't imagine many - if any - Par 4's below that.It's a par 4 for you and me, not for the tour pros. Most of them are driving it over 300 yards now, 280 is a 3 wood for most of them, and the big hitters like BDC and Rory might even take less club.
I played a 230 yard par 3 last week. I hit a 3 wood pin high but short sided and made a mess of it. I didn't complain that it should be a par 4, it's just a very tough par 3.
