US Open 2025 - Oakmont

It's a par 4 for you and me, not for the tour pros. Most of them are driving it over 300 yards now, 280 is a 3 wood for most of them, and the big hitters like BDC and Rory might even take less club.

I played a 230 yard par 3 last week. I hit a 3 wood pin high but short sided and made a mess of it. I didn't complain that it should be a par 4, it's just a very tough par 3.
It would be interesting to see where the crossover between par 3 and 4 would be for tour pro's (and 4 & 5 for that matter). The hardest Par 3 on the PGA tour is at muirfield village and averaged 3.36 I can't imagine many - if any - Par 4's below that.

Not going into the rights or wrongs (or otherwise) of your course and tree removal, but surely this mantra is not gospel truth if your trees have been planted 50 years ago, and been fully grown for 30 years….

Or is the grass of your course in a perilous state right now? Cos it’s seemingly survived for 30 odd years

The grass isn't in a perilous state... but could be better, especially in winter. A tee box that sits in the shade all day isn't going to flourish.

Scheffler and Bryson both too short from a betting point of view, but one of them may well win. Im having 3 e/w bets on live outsiders. I've bet them all at 66/1 e/w top 8, but slightly better odds may be available:

Harris English - never missed a cut in US Open, and 4 top 12 finishes in last 6 starts.
Ben Griffin - 2nd at Memorial and recent winner also.
Sam Burns - 62 last Sunday to lose in playoff. Improving every comp this season.

All in the mind really innit as we all know. He was hitting some phenomenal drives at Pebble with the Qi10 so hopefully can lean on that mental picture. Anything has to be better than his last couple of outings. 🤣

I've backed..

Fleetwood - slow and steady might win this race and was 2nd at the last really tough venue at Shinnecock

Aaron Rai - a fairways in regulation machine

Jordan Smith - similar likes finding the fairways and been in decent form

Matt Wallace - a player I like and is an attractive price, played well at the PGA

Fitzpatrick - again, steady. Obviously won the US Open a few years ago and showing glimpses of a return to form

All English, not that I done that intentionally. Schauffele is a decent price as well but swerving it as five is enough.

It’s probably going to be the Bryson and a Scottie show by the weekend

Might throw a few quid on spieth e/w as he is driving it well for a change and loves a crazy up and down

The M2 drivers came out 2016, then 2nd version 2017.

I'm sure Rory signed for taylormade in 2017
Though he may have been tinkering before that if knew nike club deal was finishing

I've got £5ew on
Sepp Straka
Russel Henley
Shane Lowry.
In reality can't see past Scheffler but those odds ain't worth it..
Can't see Rory doing well.. Nor for that matter Bryson... Both are too wild the now with drives and after watching the drone footage of the holes last night, that rough is going to cause them big issues even with their power..

Wory to win as he hits it the furthest and it the GOAT. If he dosnt win it's because he didn't play well, not because the others were better.
CMon wory ❤️❤️❤️

Nike stopped making golf clubs around 2016 - all the contracted players went and tried different OEMs etc - Rory was using M2 as well as some Mizuno irons but then went full staff with Woods in 2017

When he won his first two majors he was with Titliest and then he was with Nike for his next two

But he has said that he loved the M2 driver

McIlroy 100/30 to miss the cut is tempting me

Spieth is a decent shout. He's usually all over the place but that may be a plus here as he's used to getting out of tough situations as much as anyone haha

The one thing that needs to happen for someone to win is finding the fairway , the one thing that Spieth really struggles with - finding a fairway.

I'm sure I saw something where he said that was his favourite ever driver. Not sure how many yards he would use sticking it back in though.
I seem to recall Tiger saying the same thing. The M1 was designed for better players with faster swings but in the end the second generation M2 was incredibly popular on tour. Plenty of players were still using it long after it had been superseded by M3,4,5,6 etc.
