US Open 2025 - Oakmont

I actually like it. A birdie is a meaningful event that moves you up through the field rather than just an expected outcome keeping you level with the field.

Sort of like the golf we all play in that way 🤣.
Fortunately we don't play 290 yard par 3s and 690 yard par 5s......

Each to their own...no right or wrong.
But it just leaves me cold.

Realistically with the clubs they will use a 290 par3 is maybe the same as a 180 for me and a 690 maybe 490.
The top pros are magnificently talented and whereas it might be interesting occasionally to see them on a course that I might play realistically a challenging course that would leave me wrecked can produce a great tournament at their level.
If it challenges all aspects of their game which is meant to be the case I'll happily watch.

Love the US Open

I don’t want to watch it every week where it’s ridiculously tough, but sign me up for this week and if the conditions get up at the open.

I want to see some of the worlds best get penalised for bad shots

I've chosen this week's victims.

Scheffler to win
Bryson ew top 5
Lowry ew top 8
English ew top 8
Griffin ew top 8
Rose ew top 10

Rose is pretty long odds for someone who's finished 2nd in two of the last three majors. 👀

Scottie wins and it’s ridiculous 😂

Min Woo and Morikawa and probably a few more taking driver during practice rounds on the par 3.....
Even if they take a 3 wood some are going to be wayward...that hole is going to take an age to play...even as a call-up hole.

Par is a number, it wont take any longer than plenty of driveable par 4's.

Then why not just call it a par 4? Which is what it is.

Because the USGA don't want players under par.....for some reason....

What's wrong with a 10 under winning score over 4 rounds?

Anyway, I won't be watching it so I'm not that bothered.....

Have fun.

In terms of score it will probably play as a par 3.5.
The question is will it provide a challenge and entertainment? Only time will tell.
I'll be watching the first couple of days but I'm away camping for the last two.

I’m already getting turned off by the ceremonial mowing the rough videos that were released yesterday.

You’re cutting grass - it isn’t a march through Red Square with your Qualcast Suffolk Punch

Had to google that🤣

Isn’t that just what the Masters does tho, ad nauseum? Not defending it

Another reason why The Open is the greatest Major championship😀 There is (just) a bit less of the schmaltzy melodramatics and curated reverence

He wins everything. I can't not back him. He's like mid-2000s John Cena. We need to start a #Scottiewinslol meme. 😄
Now I've got an image of Scottie doing this when he wins.

It's a par 4 for you and me, not for the tour pros. Most of them are driving it over 300 yards now, 280 is a 3 wood for most of them, and the big hitters like BDC and Rory might even take less club.

I played a 230 yard par 3 last week. I hit a 3 wood pin high but short sided and made a mess of it. I didn't complain that it should be a par 4, it's just a very tough par 3.
