Upcoming live concerts.

Handels Messiah Christmas concert at St Giles Cathedral Edingburgh.
Something completely different for me, looking forward to it.
I’m singing The Hallelujah Chorus from it on Wednesday - I‘m a member of the local community choir doing its annual Christmas concert. Love it. Just got to remember the long pause in the final bar…

If you’ve not, or never, heard much large scale choral music you are in for a treat - the sound of massed voices singing is incredibly powerful and moving - especially when ‘accompanied’ by an orchestra.

I’ve never heard any live choral music before it’s not my normal choice but I’m really looking forward to it and sure it will be good.

This remind me of the time my two stepdaughters played in a school concert at Glyndebourne Opera House. One played violin, the other clarinet. Which obviously was amazing.
But the stand out performance was the 40 under 10year old choir, and the conducter was brilliant, had them eating out of his hand. The sound was Just mesmerising!

D12 this evening. The hip-hop stuff that D12 do I have little time for. But Eminem used to be in D12 and I have listened to, and not 100% hated, some of his stuff, so I go along with an open mind. Besides…I get in free 👍

Full disclosure - much to my surprise I really enjoyed it. Thinking it was the atmosphere and the crowd reaction and interaction with the D12 guys that did it. 800 packed into a shed…intense…thunderous bass…and dead cool DJ doing the backing track/sound plus a guitarist given the bass a scratchy/rough edge.

Still don‘t think US/Detroit Hip-Hop will be a regular listening choice, but I can get what it’s about and why such as D12 and Eminem (he used to be in D12) are insanely popular and successful.

Must note my lad thought it funny that Tuesday night I was doing Detroit Hip-Hop, and Wednesday night doing Christmas Songs and Carols. Couldn‘t get closer to opposite ends of the music spectrum, and I enjoyed both.😊

Just got back from seeing The Musical Box (Genesis tribute) doing the re-creation of the Selling England tour at the Hammersith Apollo. Individually excellent musicians and very faithful re-creation - but the whole was spoiled by dreadful sound balancing. Came away before the end as couldn't stand any more torture of one of my favourite albums ...
