TV Advice

Samsung doing good TVs at the moment. I just got mine..

1) do you really need a Blue Ray player? I got one as part of a deal and am about to put it on eBay/ gumtree/ for sale section at half the listed RRP

2) if you are not looking for the Blue ray then would highly recommend you to use the money and upgrade to a higher version of the TV. The next generation Samsung starts at the KS7000series and is big leap over the KU6400 you are considering. The KS7000 is retailing at £849 but should be adequate over the next 10 yrs. if you still need the Blue Ray then wait for me to put it on sale for £125-150. ;)

On a serious note get the KS7000 IF you can stretch.

If you don't truly need a Bluray (let's face it, HD is so last year, coupled with streaming content availability) then I would certainly be entertaining one of these

They are a Chinese brand that are looking to challenge the big boys and in terms of technology they are just as advanced, if not ahead in some aspects. Build quality is excellent as well.
The HDR resolution is fantastic, we just replaced a first generation LG 4K with one and watching 4K content at 2160p 16-bit is mind blowingly good.

Greig have read that you can't download certain apps to this. Is that true, can you download a build like you would on a kodi?

The 2015 model had an issue with having to download apps like iPlayer and C4 content. The new 2016 model has them installed. Not sure I know of many SMART TVs that can have builds like Kodi installed, could be wrong as its not something I have looked in to but most TVs I have dealt with are firmware locked. Not to say they can't be cracked but just not something I have seen. Most people I know just use a Kodi box or similar for builds.

I just bought a big panny 4K TV.

Did the sums and looked at the 4K services, the only reasonable content would come from a New PC. Everything else was rubbish.

I've sent it back for a full refund and now getting a dumb 55 inch and plugging my Apple TV into it.

Will buy 4K in 4 years when there is actually content.

Gaming wise I'm going 1440p which is plenty as a 4K rig without monitor is 2k minimum, 3 if you want it to last more than a year.

Simon, i have the KS7000 in 55". What will say is that you don't need that smart DVD/Bluray player as all of the smart features are in the TV, so a 30 quid bluray will do the same for you. I actually have that DVD player, and i used it on a non smart TV and hooked up a non smart DVD to the new TV! (hope that makes sense!)

As for the quality of the TV, i think the samsungs are excellent. We have 3 in our house (only 2 smart, and one of them is old!) very easy user interface, great quality sound and picture.

4k wise, i stream netflix and Prime and i also have SkyQ so watch premier league footy in UHD and its amazing!

As with any thin TV, sound quality is OK, but not awesome. I have the Samsung k650 soundbar added to mine and its awesome. (i bought from RS too, very happy with them!!)

I'm going I spend as much on the sound bar as I do on my new TV me thinks...

I've come to the conclusion it's just to early for me to buy 4K.

I need a good few years yet.

Roots.. got the KS8000, I was surprised at the audio quality. For a wafer thin TV, I am amazed at how it generates. Had a Yamaha sound bar that I used with the old telly and had to pack it away. I am not an audiophile so can't tell the difference between the notes so the Telly works fine and one more remote and need for electricity gone

I just got the KS7000 from Richer sounds and to be honest its head and shoulders above the one it replaced and that was only a few years old ,now relegated to the dining room .Don't think you can beat Samsung TV's especially when you factor the 6 year warranty they give (The store that is ). Set up is a breeze with the one connect system .

Just to say i am not connected to the store in any way just a fan of good service.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably wait until I've moved in before purchasing.
To see how much money I've got left before splashing the cash :P

Thus avoiding the mistake I made.

Understanding your content is also important. Upscaling isn't the same, most of my content is shot in the 90s and early 2000s so it won't fair well.

Also a steam link doesn support 4K, it's HDMI 1.4 only.

Thankfully TV has gone back with full refund. Won't spend over 500 now unless I have to. Can get dumb 55 inch TVs for under that.

That is the right idea. We thought of buying last year but held back and now bingo last years desireables are now more affordables. The other reason to wait would be to find what kind of internet access you get in the new place. If you are on dial up, then no point having a smart streaming tv if it cant do content. Good luck with the purchase

I am a big fan of Richer S.. but this time we bought from Currys. I am not a fan of being sold to by a guy who thinks he is the bees knees but looks like an estate agent in a gel-ed hair (no offence to any estate agents or those who use hair products). The only reason we got from Currys was because of finance as it helps with cash flow

Its worth buying a decent one, just look at how thin the TV's now, its no wonder the sound is not amazing.
I looked into a sound bar a couple of years back but I read too much about sound delays that it seemed weird. Do they work properly now?

mine is fine.. you can connect them via HDMI now also, mine however is connected by bluetooth (bar and the sub) and its fine. TV has an audio delay setting you can adjust if you need to.

I've just bought one, connects with a hdmi. No delay, works perfectly and I am chuffed to bits with it. Makes a huge difference.

Good to hear as I'm about to get a ks9000, going to connect my old headphones via a USB Bluetooth receiver as there is no headphone socket - hopefully this will work ok - we shall see
