so 1st round of club champs last Sunday, the leader was 3 shots clear so what a surprise last night to find he had been dq'd! apparently his card has gone missing from the box! he was witnessed putting it in apparently and added his score to the whiteboard (only a very small club so quite laid back.. or so I thought)

Anyhow, he was in my team when we won the 4 man scramble (all club newbies), won the medal gross and nett last month and imho I reckon he has been blackballed by someone!

Also start to feel a bit like a witch hunt going on as what with me getting 5.4 shot general play cut, my mate being quizzed over a 73 net 64... something not right!

Am proper angry right now as this chap is a smashing bloke who loves his golf and puts in loads of practice and effort.

So much for a gentlemans sport!

May well make a club change next season :angry:

That's terrible - poor guy. Sounds like there is some jealousy of others success and that's never healthy.

I'd be moving on for sure. Perhaps if there's enough support a boycott of the rest of the champs?
 
the club only has 70 members, mostly seniors so can;t see much happening tbh. I understand they had a special committee meeting to discuss the issue and the end result was dq. The thing is he was in a 3 ball, marked someone elses xcard with his scores on, someone marked his card and they all handed them in at same time!!!!!!! It stinks.

Already looking at an alternative club, will cost me nigh on double but right now its looking very appealing (and at £699 for 13 months not exactly expensive anyway)
 
That's a scandal if he was seen putting his card in but if no card or no sig on the card then a DQ is the only option despite a record of scores on the card he marked card.
If you feel that strongly withdraw yourself but I would want to clarify the apparent witness of card deposit before doing anything hasty.
 
yeah, they have spent a few quid on it and what with 2 courses, range etc then its a tempter, depends if my playing partners are up for it aswell though.

I know DQ is the only option but its left a very sour taste indeed. The individual wants me and playing partners to continue as 1 is 2 off the lead in the gross and I am 2 off the lead in the nett so be nice if one or both of us can snaffle one of them :D
 
IF you have 100% cast iron definitive witnesses that he posted the card then I would personally be appealing the committees decision to the county union and kicking up a right royal stink. I would also advise them to your recent cut (way too severe for the play imo) and any other incidents you think potentially related.

If hes not reinstated Id then withdraw from the 2nd round myself, urging as many other people to do the same and making sure that everyone who did play knew what had gone on.

I would then be resigning from the club and joining the other one

Maybe take a photocopy of your cards/douse them in itchy powder before lodging next week if you chaps have a good round!
 
he is taking it all the way and has informed them as such. Will be interesting to see on Sunday as he is still going to turn up! He is a Major in the Ghurkas so wouldnt want to mess with him lol.

time will tell but right now I am pretty certain I will join elsewhere, sod the money its all about the principal imho!
 
I would agree with Fundy take your complaint to the Herts County Golf Union, assuming your club is a member and not just a pub society.
Make sure you state the facts and don't embelish.

I'm sure you remember my astonishment at the unbelievable General Play cut - even though the forum agreed you needed a chop. The committee are clearly out of control and have no intention of following the rules of the game. The County Union needs to be made aware of the situation.
 
the thing is though its my 1st year proper so I dont want to kick up fuss and am happy to be off 21 as it looks much better in the sig.

My friend is going to take it further so I am sure other issues may get brought up. The trouble is its a nice little course/club that is more run as a friendly affair as opposed to serious golf and apart from this episode I was quite happy playing there week in, week out. I knew I would eventually move to a larger club but as a newbie learning the game its ideal.

Hopefully Sunday will shed more light and give me and my playing partners a clearer picture.

Surely it's about getting and maintaining the handicap properly and not being at the whim of a committee who clearly have no idea that CONGU exists lets alone operate within its remit.

However I'd be making a fuss, whether I'd been there two days or twenty years. If you can be categorically certain the card was signed and put in then I'd be wanting to know where it went.

If you are thinking of going anyway what have you got to lose but it does seem your recent form is upsetting the apple cart and so I'd be making a stand and getting out as soon as possible
