Transferring Music from iTunes/PC to laptop ?

Hi all, just wondered if anyone can help - a good friends son is wanting to transfer all his music from his iPod/iTunes on a home PC, across to his new Laptop/iTunes etc ?

Anyone know how best ?

My daughter says you have to put the music onto a memory stick,then you can put it onto the new laptop,hope this helps....

I had to do this about a year ago, and it was quite easy from what I remember.

Depending on how much memory is needed you can use a memory stick, I used an external hard drive which I use to back up my music, photos and files etc. Just a cut and paste job to be honest!

While we're on the subject - I transferred about 10gb of music off my portable drive, and (somewhat expectedly) itunes won't open it/import it. (rights issue)
Now, as it doesn't work/can't be transferred, I'd like to empty "my music". If there are albums in there that are on itunes (ripped from original CDs), how can I find out which album folders I need to keep?
I've tried looking at the properties of the file, but they don't say which are itunes or sony (old) or mp3 or what.

I added mine straight to the iTunes file when I transferred my whole library from my pc to pc.
