So, what's the toughest hole you've ever played?

Mine is this one Winterfield 1st hole, in Dunbar, East Lothian.

I have only played this course twice, the first time, was the first time I had swung a club, apart from when about 12 in a park...

Par 3, elevated tee, elevated green, 238 yards... :p

Not a great introduction to golf!!!

:o

The 8th at Chiltern Forest

The green is somewhere at the top of that picture.

The ladies tee is 58 yards from the hole and you still can't see the green.

Edit: The perspective isn't great in that picture. The camera must be pointing about 20 degrees upwards to make it look so flat. It's up a steep hill.

Any of them have the potential to be tough and even a simple 478 par 5 we have at my course cost me a 9 on Monday. I always struggle with the 2nd at Maidenhead. It isn't long at 330 ish off the white but it never sets up well to my eye and I always make a hash of the drive and struggle.

I can pick 3 or 4 from Wednesday afternoon to be honest.

Possibly the 18th at Forest of Arden - a real buttock-cleancher.

Probably the 11th at Royal Troon. The famous Railway hole.
Usually into the wind with horrendous gorse down the left and the railway line hard down the right.

Yep, remember the first at winter field well.
Very tough opening hole to a round.
200 yards to clear gully and make the green at 230yards
Damn tough hold with any kind of wind, respect to anyone walking off with a 3 on that first hole.

Probably the 4th as even off the front tee's it made us all look stupid :D

Has to be the 13th on the old course at Nefyn.... here's how the club describe it with no mention of the normal howling wind!

Spectacular risk and reward par four – the risk, attempting a 200 yard carry over the bay, the reward, a short pitch to a green set between two rocky outcrops. For the faint-hearted, bail out right leaving a medium to long iron second.

The eigth at Royal St Georges. Into a howling gale. Mind you, that day every hole was the toughest I have played.

It also didnt help that the hole I aimed for off the 8th tee was the wrong one (I believe I aimed at the 5th) and so hit my drive into serious clag on the left!

DOH!

We have a par3 at heaton park. That was once discribed by John Jacobs as the hardest par3 in england. A raised tee to a plateau green. The thing is its a ravine all round the green full of mature trees and a lake at the bottom. You need to sit down for 10mins to get your breath back after the walk from tee to green.

Gotta be the 210 yard par 3 14th at Royal Portrush... They call it "calamity corner" and it just the most intimidating looking hole I've ever seen.

The view from the tee:

1st at Machrihanish ,the guys on here will back me up :D

You mean the famous Machrihanish road hole????? :D

I'm puting in a shout for the 9th at Letham Grange, double dog leg through trees. Its a hole that I usually struggle on.

Looks a good challenge, can't make out the tee and green though.

Tough holes can be short as well as monsters, can't think of a toughest but there's been many unfair holes where any good drive and I mean any, ends up in the boondai :(

The 2nd at my club Pumpherston.

A 420yd dogleg, 220yds to the corner and its tree lined all the way. If you get that bit right its 200yds to the green with a carry over water.

Comes far too early in the round for me

18th at Leven Links.
457yd Par 4, SI 9. With the Scoonie Burn right in front of the green and the pin cut about 15 yards behind it.
"So so" drive and a nice easy 3 wood off the deck oinked straight into it.
Feck that for a game of soldiers
