Titliest Volkey Wedges

Do these wedges actually stop the ball pretty sharpish or is it all hype.

I've got a pound or two lying over from the wife from Xmas and fancied one.

I was looking at a 52 as I need a bit more than the 56 I use for a lot of the par 4's and a couple of the par 5's.

If I new it was going to pull up pretty sharp then I'd be more confident hitting a full shot in rather than the roll i seem to get at the minute.

Any other recommendations greatly accepted.

I'm playing of 15 so if these are going to save me a shot or then i would gladly part with the money.

All clubs will stop the ball, its just the hands holding the club that may hinder the desired stopping power.

But in answer, they are great wedges.

Agree with Andy
Most wedges will stop the ball -
as long as you make good contact
and you're playing a decent ball.

On wet greens you can stop anything but on firmer greens a softer ball will help.

Vokeys are good but try others too. I know some who have had Vokeys and changed and vice versa so its worth considering the rest of the pack

I find them a tad heavy for my liking. Have just bought Mizuno SW to replace Vokey SW, and well pleased. Suggest you test a few different manufacturers wedges before you commit.

Agree Vokeys are great wedges. I've got a 52 and a 58 but it wasn't until I had a pitching and chipping lesson from the pro that I really learned how to get the best from them.

Ive got a couple of the Spin Milled versions, 54 & 60* Lob.

I love them, and whilst its true to say that most wedges will stop the ball with the right connection, the SM Vokeys impart a helluva lot of spin.
With a crisp strike, and receptive greens, I've watched the ball spin back 4-12', which if youve just hit it pin high, is a tad frustrating !!

More often than not, it hits and stops quickly.

I like them, especially the Black Nickel versions.

I use the Wilson Staff TW9 wedges and find them very good.....There the gun metal grey ones i have them in 48,52,and 56 lofts and you can pick them up pretty reasonable.

Love my 54 and 60 degree vokey wedges superb.you wont go wrong if you buy one.

I have the 60 and 52 degree in my bag. Personally I love the weight of them and have no complaints. Thinking of changing my current sand wedge to one. But I agree with the others worth trying a few others to see what suits you best

I found them a bit heavy very much like the Callaway wedges but you do get fantastic spin with them (not good if you don't want to cut up your ball too much). There are loads of good wedges out there now. I tried an MD seve wedge before Christmas and was amazed how good it was. I love the TM TP Z grooves personally but there are others like Mizuno that were originally known purely for their wedges. As with all clubs, try as many as you can and see what works

My next wedges will be the Ping tour ones, loved the Srixon wedges the past 18 months, got great spin and control but looking a tad sorry for themselves now.

I love my volkeys but as others have mentioned spin is about more than just the wedge. The ball you use (softer is better for more spin) and most importantly the contact you make will determine how much, if any, spin you get on the ball.

You also need to be playing a full shot, i.e hitting the ball pretty hard, if its a short shot then check rather than spin is best you are likely to get.

I have had a Vokey spin milled lob wedge and didn't like it as the grooves bite so hard, it has a de-lofting effect on the flight of a chip. This is fine if you want to stop a ball on a sixpence as it has the affect of generating plenty of backspin but not so good if you want to hit a flop/lofted chip shot.

I am on the lookout for a new lob wedge myself as my Cleveland is worn out. I think the latest Callaway wedges look superb and am probably going to go for one of these. Either that or a Mizuno.

They are the business, I would recommend them over any other wedge. Beautiful to look at and superb stopping power, used with a quality ball of course.

Just acquired a new 50 degree one, cant wait to play golf again.

Have the MD wedges myself and cannot fault them plenty of stop i have had Muzino, Volkey and TM wedges in the past and for the money they are just as good.

Any wedge with clean grooves should stop the right ball, as long as you hit it well. To me the ball and the contact are the most important things in getting a ball to stop.

It all depends on the ball you use.If you are looking for really good stopping power and the ability to spin them back you need to be using a Tour caliber ball. Pro v1, Z-star that kind of thing, that will give the wedge the best chance of delivering the spin you are after.

im with homer , the TM z tp wedges are great , i have them in 52 and 56 and there great , but the vokeys are great and its just personal opinions which ones you prefer , i suggest u try before you buy tho.
