My pitching wedge is 46degrees. What the preference be for wedges after that 52 and 58 degree or 50, 54 and 58 degree. Below pitching wedge I play very few full shots am fairly happy hitting a 100 yard and even 80 yard shot with a pitching wedge. I’m thinking a 52and 58 will suit me as I think more wedges could mean more indecision, particularly on those green side type shots..

I think you've answered your own question.
I've got 46, 50, 55 and 60 and I really like having that many wedges.
But if you are happy (and able to) play 100 and 80 yard shots with a PW, then most likely 3 extra wedges won't be necessary.

If you don't bag a lot of long clubs, or have wider loft gap spacing in your set, you may have room for more wedges.

Loft and full swing distance aren't the only factors in wedges.

Some people like specialty sand irons that don't play well from the turf.

Some people like very low bounce wedges strictly for finesse shots around the greens.

I like both.

Getting down to fourteen clubs is a chore for me.

It's just a matter of what works for you. Over the years I've gone both ways.....fewer wedges, then more wedges. At this point I have 5.....pw-50-54-58-64. Although....my pw is a hybrid. If I find a need to have other choices in the bag I could easily change to pw-52-58 and I would adjust to that without any problem.

My PW is 45 I believe. I have 50, 56 (sw) and 60. The 60 is only for dinks over bunkers onto greens and similar so may not get used during a round.

The 50 is the big one for me, I use it a lot. I did have a 52 but when I went to change it the 50 looked sexier, black finish 😎. No more scientific than that 😄

Yesterday I played with 45, 50, 58.

The 45 is a 9-iron.

In the bag I had driver, 3-wood, 20° hybrid and then 2-SW irons. The 2,3,4 were Powerbilt Oversize, 5-PW were Ping Eye2 and 58° was Cleveland Classic. (no blades)

Yes, but the marketing teams of golf companies have pictures of you on Wanted Posters!😁😁

I have a 50, 54 & 60. 50 & 54 are CBX wedges so they have cavities and higher bounce for more forgiveness on pitching and chipping. The 60 is a lower bounce one, I mostly only use it in bunkers.

As others said it could be as much about type of shots/conditions to play as about gapping.

I just added a 56 to my 54 just because it has full face groves and is lovely out of the rough where I tend to hit the ball on the toe 🙃

I have just changed my irons and added a set gap wedge for the first time.

Previous was PW48, speciality 52,56.60 and new is PW45, GW50, speciality 54, 58.

I use each wedge for a full shot with a known distance, plus one solely for around the green and one for sand. Gapping for me is important because I use them for full shots.

We all have our own foibles with wedges, but being a versatile player with your PW hopefully cuts one out of your bag.

I've done the 4 wedges down to three this year. 45/50/65/60 down to 45/52/58. best thing I've done in years, purely for the reason of indecision you mentioned. the shot chooses the club for me, I'm rarely stuck between 2 club choices. I'd say go for it.

I'd like to be associated with the remarks of the last speaker (y)

All down to personal preference

My PW is 46 so I have 50 , 54 and 58

That gapping suits me

But some would prob go 52 and 58 which then gives you more space at the top of your bag

I have three wedges and I agree but also make sure I know how far these go especially with a half and three quarter shot. Anything less than that I always think is more of a feel shot and subject to the lie

My problem with using those 4 wedges is that I am addicted to my 64 degree wedge. I'm pw-50-54-58-64. I'm NOT taking the 64 out and with the gaping on the other wedges I can't easily take one of those out. I could probably spend some money and go 52-58-64. Wouldn't you know I got rid of a 52 a few months ago.......
I've been thinking about taking my 11w out though......I currently go d-5w-9w-11w, and I wouldn't mind dropping the 11, lofting the 9 up and then adding a 7w.

There can't be many people on earth that have an 11 wood and a 64° in the bag. 😄

So you have 5 wedges

4 woods

1 putter

What irons do you have then
