Titleist irons

"Nowt so queer as folk" is a very old saying.

I know lots of people who think it is great to live in an old house, listen to old music and appreciate old paintings.
They might like to go to an old theatre and watch an old play.
Some people have vintage cars as a hobby.

I have vintage golf clubs as a hobby.
I have never ever thought to myself, "Old clubs good, new clubs bad" as a mantra or an explanation or justification of my hobby.
There are rubbish old clubs and there are some fine examples of golf club design and manufacture from times gone by.

So if a person is an appreciator of old art, old music, old literature, old architecture or old cars, I see no need to put them down, ridicule them or dismiss them as idiots.
Equally when someone wants, or posts about new clubs, people don’t need to bang on about lofts being different.
It’s boring and spoils threads.

I do need to "bang on about it", because 5 irons and 5 wedges as a set is a step too far in my opinion.
My opinion may be a minority view.

Is it then boring for me to read all the other opinions and does it spoil it for me? No it does not.

Is this a public forum consisting of majority and minority views? Yes.

Did the OP ask for your opinion on lofts, no!
He asked if people had tried the irons. He didn’t even ask for opinions
On the clubs themselves.

I think the message is that there really is no answer to the OPs question, and the most helpful point is the observation on the lofts arms race. There is nothing else to say on the clubs themselves as such. Irons are defined by their looks and loft. Looks are in the eye of the beholder. Lofts are an element that can be seen as a technical aspect, or, as being debated, really just as another aesthetic element - its a 27deg club - if you like a 7 stamped on the sole, maybe its for you. Others prefer a 5 on the sole of a 27 so its not for you.

Actually there was a very simple answer to the question.
Have you tried them?
Yes and no are the only real answers that are required.

I am very interested in Titleist irons. I have been so for a very long time.
They were some of the first sets I saw with the lofts stamped on the clubheads.
I am interested in their latest offerings.
I am interested in what those who have had recent fittings have to say about them.
I am not interested in silencing or negating other people's views on Titleist irons or any other new irons.
The lofts set-ups are a feature of any new sets of irons. This is an aspect that is worthy of discussion.

Do you know why GI irons have low lofts?
Have you asked yourself what that amount of perimeter weighting does to ball flight?
Comparing a vintage blade with a
Modern GI club isn’t a direct comparison.
What ball flight does a GI iron produce?

To properly compare old with new you’d be better served looking at modern blades or shallow cavity irons.
My 2020 irons have higher lofts than the Titleist 400 GI irons. The 9 iron is 41*, and I believe the blades are more lofted.

Yes.

Never needed to ask myself this as I've learnt it through several decades of playing with all types of irons.

I agree, that is why I never make such a direct comparison. I merely point out the change of lofts to numbering over the years.

I understand the development of irons over several decades and the reasons for the progression to stronger lofts.
The last 10-15 years have been extreme and excessive in this regard. That last sentence is my opinion.

How do the lofts work out in such a set?

The resale price of such a set may be poor compared to a matching set.
According to Titleist the T series have been designed to be “blended”. How many golfers don’t use their 3 and 4 irons because they struggle to hit them?

I am genuinely interested in how your thoughts on a blended set develop through the fitting process today.
I did a similar thing, in a small way, when I bought my Ping set.
I went for Ping i10 5-PW and Ping G10 3 and 4.

The lofts on the T100 are a near perfect match with my 2008 Pings, but that doesn't necessarily mean they appeal to me more than the other new offerings from Titleist.
I tend to examine the PW first and work upwards from there.
After the putter and the driver, I think I hit more shots with the PW than any other club.

Hope you have a good and worthwhile day.

I have a Mizuno HMB 4 iron to go with my MMC 5-PW, as it just makes life that bit easier with the hollow head.

I went and had the fitting.
Hit a group with my Mizuno 225 7 iron to start with. Then onto the T150 and after just 3/4 shots I was impressed with the feel ,sound and was generally wowed and didn’t want to stop hitting balls 😂.
The fitter was made aware I was looking for a bit more height and better decent angle so 3 shafts we’re trialed and I preferred the AMT Red stiff. It also gave me the better numbers. Launch, spin , peak height and decent angle were all better than my current set and probably optimal for my swing speed.
We then moved on to the T200 which in my opinion didn’t feel or sound as good and gave a lower ball flight so not what I was looking for.
So in the end I’ve gone for PW to 5 iron in the T150.
I was open to the idea of a blended set but the T150 was great and even slight miss hits gave decent numbers.
Ordered and should be mine in 5 to 10 working days.

I think I might have been tempted to go for the 4 at 22 ° and the W1 at 48° at either end as well.
Interesting that you had the 225s.
A mate went for the 223s this year. We were comparing clubs and I have 8 irons from 21° to 46° and he has 7 irons from 22° to 46°.
So not much difference between my 3 and his 4, but we both have 46° PWs.
I prefer the look of the 225s to his 223s. A classic blade design.

I use hybrids from 185 yards and above. And I have a wedge set which are 48, 52, and 58 and I love them tbh.
Yes the 225,s have been great and will likely be for sale in a couple of weeks.

What lofts are they? :ROFLMAO:
Well I already have 3, 4 and 5 hybrids so no point getting irons I won't use.
Basically about 4 degrees different per club compared to my AP2.
The biggest change is moving to a lighter shaft , the kbs tour lite, it's about 30gramms less.
