titleist 915 d4

Just thought I would toss it in there in the interests of fairness. Tm and callaway take stick for releasing lots of drivers so it's only fair.

Titleist current line up:
915d2
915d3
915d4

Callaway current line up:
Big Bertha alpha 815
Big Bertha alpha 815 double black diamond
Big Bertha v series
XR
XR pro

TM current line up:
R15 (TP is just a shaft upgrade so haven't included it as a seperate)
R15 430
Aero burner
Aero burner tp (TP in aero burner is a different head and shaft, so is included)

So Titleist is behind both the others in number of offerings in the current line up, and has a 2 year release cycle compared to a 1 year (or less) in the others.

(Not a titleist homer - I have an R15!)

My understanding of the D4 is, it is a spacial order product so will not be in the big box shops. It was clear from before the release of 915 that there would be 3 drivers in the Titleist range this year. The D4 is aimed at very high swing speed players who cannot control there spin, its weight is more forward than D2 and D3 and its face more curved. Not a club for the average hacker and likely not forgiving.

Let's not beat around the bush here. Plenty of companies offer low and forward cg to players who don't have super fast swing speeds.

If you have the same launch and ball speed, then reduce the spin you will end up with a longer total distance.

Tm have offered it with the sldr and r15
Mizuno with the jpx850. Cobra's new offering does the same.

Titleist and ping have been forced into making these due to a reluctance to incorporate movable weight technology.

Why didn't they announce sooner they had a lower spin driver coming before many paid a lot of money for their d2 and d3 drivers.

I am big titleist fan, but this was a poor move on their behalf imo.

It was made clear before the whole range came out that this was going to happen....

Because as you say, along with Ping, they have been forced into having a 'low spin' model in their range to cover all the bases. I suppose companies can't afford not to in a shrinking and such competitive market.

Although how much difference it will make to the vast majority of golfers is questionable as I understand there is only about 200/300 rpm difference in these low spin versions. And you can easily get treble that depending on where you hit the ball on the face of the driver.

Two years to get this driver right. All they had to do was put the option of moving that weight from from the back to the front in the d3.

They haven't reinvented the wheel with this.

Having messed around a lot with the weights on the jpx850 and seen how it affects other people's ball flights I can safely say it's more than a 200rpm change.

Anyhoo, I am sure the d4 is one serious bat if the d3 is anything to go by!

IF I go and bash some more Titleist drivers at a demo day, I'm sticking with the D2 as I nailed it last week. I wouldn't be upset at all if I bought and of the 915 range and found they bought another model out in the same range. It's just offering something different and as long as the one I had was keeping me on the short grass then happy days
