Tiger Woods comeback: Make up your own mind here....

What a pile of contrived garbage.

I really can't understand the starry eyed pro-Tiger lobby on this site. He is a super golfer but was, is and always will be, an absolute c***.

You can look at one of about 20 Tiger related threads on this forum and get the same two views effectively. The pro-Tiger guys can't see his faults and think he is the second coming and the Tiger anti's (like me and I guess Parmo) can't see why anyone would think anything positive about him that relates to anything other than his scoring on a golf course.

It makes for some mildly entertaining verbal sparring I guess but other than that, it is an infinitely predictable pattern. Still, that didn't stop me contributing I suppose!

I can definitely see his faults as a husband and father but I still think he is the best golfer. I've made huge mistakes in my life so certainly can't sit on the "he shouldn't have done it" side of the fence. He did, he got caught and he's trying to deal with it as he sees fit. The sooner he can do that and come back to golf the better.

I don't think its got anything to do with being pro or anti Tiger at all.

I think his behaviour on the course over the last few years is much more serious than his behaviour off the course. His surliness and his tantrums have been dreadful and I think that is much more detrimental to golf than the fact he cheated on his wife.

What he's done to his wife and family is between him and them and, much as we'd like to know the ins and outs, airing his (very) dirty laundry is hardly going to help those that matter.

I just wish he'd get back out and play great golf. the longer he leaves it the more difficult it's going to be for him.

The "press conference" today seemed a bit whiny and self pitying. Why the hell bring religion into it at this time?

For God's sake man, get out there and take the flak that's going to fly.

I believe all Tiger and his team did today was test the media water. He dipped his big toe in and will now sit back and see what sort of response he gets.

Its a clever ploy to ease him back into the public spotlight and not during tournament play.

I think if Tiger's waiting for forgiveness via the media, he'll have a long wait.

Even the Golf Writers of America refused their invitation to attend the "press conference" which suggests that even the American media want a pound of flesh.

Well, what a load of old pony. What's he saying sorry to us for?

"I'm sorry I let you down " boo hoo, wimper, wimper ffs. No you didn't, you're just a git who betrayed his wife. It should be her you're saying sorry to - if you care for her that is.

He should sort out his life but leave us out of it. If he wants to turn out & play golf - fine. Otherwise, he should keep his sorry ass away.

As much as I appreciate all that Tiger has done for golf in terms of money, I am glad that he is staying away from the game for a while. He is one messed up individual so far out of touch he could be a politician in this country!
Golf needs people with personality, and to be honest without tiger it might mean that some so call "golf jounalists" (I'd call "Tiger journalists") will focus on the current golfers with personalities. that people can support and follow. I reall enjoyed the golf when Tiger was out of the game last time, and I hope to do the same this time.
If the masters can continue with their set up that means the roars continue this year like they did last year, I can't wait for the next 8 weeks or so to fly by.
Sort yourself out Mr Woods, and please be true to your word and be more respectful of golf when you do come back!

Most people agree that his on course behavior went downhill after he didn't have his father's influence.

It's possible that his off course behaviour might well have done the same.

He said that he used to feel that he was 'entitled' to behave in any way he liked, and not be beholden to society's rules. But now he's realised his mistake.

He said he was sorry to his wife, but feels the media hounding is excessive.

He said that his wife won't accept any verbal apology, but will judge him on his future actions.

I have thought for ages that he thought he was above the game, he admitted as much, but has said he will change his attitude.

Given that he is increadibly strong willed and has always been a bit of a control freak ( two attributes that helped make him world number one ) he was never going to have the open forum get together that the media wanted.

I don't think he knows when he will come back, because I think, at this moment, he's waiting for his wife's approval. Giving away some of his beloved control. I think it's his way of telling his wife how important she is. How long he can do this for is another question.

I think he wants to improve as a personality, but the proof will be in the pudding and all that.

Bottom line : He has been a bit of a prat up to now, but there's hope that he won't be from here on in. There's no reason why he can't change. I personally think that if he saves his marriage he will lose his competitive edge, but if his marriage breaks up he will return and really grab the game by the balls.

I kind of hope that we've seen the best of Tiger, the golfer, and hope we start seeing Tiger, the elder statesman.

Sounds like you have a confession to make. ok everyone pull up a chair!! ;)

I think Tiger would love to be back playing at Augusta. He's not stupid, he realises that as soon as he gets back to winning golf tournaments........the interest in his past will slowly go away.

The fact its still dragging on and he's still doing all the rehab for his "addiction", is just a way to keep his wife from kicking him to the curb.

You can say all you want about his affairs/wife/sex clinic...etc. Frankly I don't give a monkey's elbow about what he does in his own time. What matters to me most of all is what his behaviour is like when he returns. Will he take Tom Watson's advice and show humility to the course, the other players, the crowd and the post-match interviewers? Or will he be the same plonker as before? I hope the former, but I fear the latter.

Why do you think the latter???

If anything yesterday i thought he was very remorseful and made reference to his on course behaviour as one of the things that needs to be looked at and changed.

I think he came across as a bit messed up. It will take time, and possibly a good shrink to fix what appears to be a real mess. I can see why he won't be back anytime soon.

do you think they use aversion therapy, as they do with phobias?

They could try, but it wouldn't work. I try aversion therapy all the time. I buy beer, I look at it, I can't resist.
I see shiny new kit, I look at it and have to ask the bouncer in AG to throw me out for a spurious reason. Tempt me with fit lasses and the wife steps in.....
Actually, she steps in for all the above. :)

That was the biggest load of Tosh ever, I dont really care about what he does in his private life but that press confrence was as false as it comes. I wonder who wrote it? Nike? Shame they couldn't hire someone to do a beleivable voice over.

If it was a genuine apology, he wouldn't need a script!

Forget all that crap Tiger and get back to playing, your a golfer, not a soap star!
