Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

You can't punish someone for consistantly almost breaking the rules, otherwise I'd be in prison for "almost murder" after all the rounds Ive got planned with Scouser this year...

Hold on, if the same players are being put on the clock week in week out, then surely they are holding up play week in week out? Just because they haven't been penalised, doesn't mean they aren't slow. Maybe if they started penalising persistent offenders, play would speed up a bit

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Should a 14yr old really be competing in the Masters? I'm not saying he shouldn't,just asking the question.

Obviously he should. Anyone 'should' be competing in the masters if the qualify. It is well known in golf that age doesn't make the difference. Why discriminate younger ones if they have the game? Plus, a young lad like that is great for the game of golf, might attract some younger people to the game.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Fred Couples isn't doin too bad for a old boy

He isn't that old (it's all relative), Sandy Lyle is putting in a good performance this year too; but in general I would like to see an end to life time exemptions for past winners. There's a lot of half decent golfers who can't get an invite.

During the last round of the Farmer's insurance open, Tiger's group, being held up by the group in front, took 3 hours to play nine holes. The group in front had lost a complete hole. I don't remember anyone being penalised then.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

I half agree but then again it is an invitational and on no other major (or regular tour comp for that) do you get to see the likes of Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw etc all playing still, I think this is part of what makes Augusta's annual event so good.

I apologise for asking such a Obvious question:confused:

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Anyone who can shoot 73 round Augusta during the masters deserves to be there

True,I only asked the question as some people are of the opinion that his playing partners should be giving him advice as in a practise round. Rather than concentrate on there own game.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

I don't think anyone here would defend slow play or even be shocked at someone pointing out that it is a problem. Its just the circumstances they decide to do something about it.

Even though he is probably figiting somewhere innocently now and has nothing to do directly with this decision... Why am i sitting here hating goofball bradley evenmore!!!

But then, my opinion is he should also be considered as a normal player. I don't think his partners should give him advice or anything just because he's younger. :)

I think it was fairway dodger in another thread who suggested an 18 hole mini tournament for the really senior past winners. Not a bad idea as it would give the legends a chance to be competitive, I'd certainly watch it.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Its not giving advice its telling him to get a move , i played in a pro am a few years ago when the pro in my group told on of the guys to get a move on as he was that slow, thats not advice thats telling someone to keep up.

Sabbatini got slaughtered for it when he left Ben Crane waiting to hit his shot as he was that slow.

I thought Sabbatini did the right thing. But Crane still wasn't penalised

I think that's the done thing though. Hopefully when the young man is in his 30s he'll be passing on the knowledge.

In fact forget 30s...when he's 20 :D

I thought it was fair enough him getting the penalty until this stat was stated on SKY. Does seem harsh all things considered.

But you're forgetting that the rest are Pros.
They do just enough to stay the right side of the penalty.
All it takes is a quick hole and you're off the clock - even the persistent slow-coaches can only get penalised if they're slow once they're on the clock.
And once they are they pick up the pace a bit.
