Considering the number of complaints re slow play that seem to go unpunished on the tour this does seem very harsh. Poor lad but then we dont really know how slow he has been. It should get some of the pros thinking though. Good on him for finishing so strongly though. Id have probably collapsed for the 18th having had the penalty given against me.

I agree its a little ridiculous but butch made a really good point that he would have been warned plenty of times and timed before and if he didnt improve he warrants a one shot penaltyy

Out of all the slow players we see every week on tour this lad who has played his heart out is the only one I've seen penalised... Absolute joke!!! This whole Masters tournament has been one pee take after another so far from crap coverage and now this!!!

Generally don't believe it is about that. Like Butch said, he has clearly been timed and must have been playing extremely slow to receive the penalty. Slow play is killing the game. Well all know this, and at a televised level this is where it is stamped out. Harsh, but fair ruling in my opinion.

Sadly yes.
Annoying that, for example, Kevin Na gets away with his antics week in week out and this kid gets punished on the biggest day of his life. He must be gutted.

Is it really though? From what they were saying, he must have been warned and warned before it got to that, so possibly the last option they had. They should make sure they do it more often I think if they want to start getting rid of slow play.
As Butch Harmon said, they were probably more lenient with him than they would have been with anyone else.
It's a shame they had to do this yes, but we only really know the headline, not the fully story at this stage.

As you say, we don't know.....
He will have had at least 2 warnings - 1 that he is out of position on the course (as a group) and if they don't resolve this they get told they are being put on the clock (with published shot times etc). These are very generous so there's no surprises involved!

The coverage is greater this year than ever before you think it's bad now it could be just an hours highlights thurs/fri at nigh on midnight!

Hmmm until I see proof of them warning him I just cant believe it. Surely the nurerous warnings will be recorded. I don't think the broadcasters would purposely not show it if he is stopping to play power rangers with his caddy.

I hope that the officials are going to be consistant and put others on the clock if they are playing slow.
Feel it's a shame for the lad tho- I hope that the lead doesn't go beyond -6 so that he makes the cut

Yea Butch said he was a slow player discussing everything in great length with his caddy.
I think it's a sad side to the whole story of the lad but I'm sure he had plenty of warning and there's no conspiracy.
