Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

< snipped> Tiger and Donald took 1 hour 20 minutes to play 3 holes but I doubt they'll be put on the clock never mind given a stroke penalty, there's absolutely no consistency here.
But the fact they've taken 1 hour 20 to play 3 holes doesn't mean that they should be put on the clock. If they can't play because the group in front are in range then they can't be put on the clock. They're in the correct position. You need to be too far behind the group in front (i.e. out of position) and over the time allowed for the holes played before the pace of play conditions can be enforced.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

If a Professional gets a penalty stroke added, it can make $$$$$ difference in their earnings for that comp.
An amateur - makes no financial difference.

Just saying...

So can breaking any other rule but we dont seethem being waved. In fact it is even more reason why the pros should set a good example with regard to pac and following the rules.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Absolutely outrageous that this AMATEUR 14 year old kid playing the masters for the first time and who has played unbelievable golf is penalised and in danger of missing the cut when you consider that the likes of Jason "takes all" Day and others never get a penalty for slow play. The officials need to be a bit more sensitive and consistent in laying down the law.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

I'm sure pros get put on the clock every week but they have the experience to speed up a little and avoid penalties. Looks like he hasn't.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

They need to be consistant with their decisions, if they penalised him for slow play lets see others who are playing slow penalised. Keep it consistant and i have no complaints

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

If he was 20 secs over on his final time fair enough.

Was watching Amen corner coverage earlier and when his tee shot on 13 landed there was no sight of the group in front so in effect they were a hole behind then

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

I'm gutted. I'm pretty sure there have been way more slower players than him since 1995... But reading some news articles on the net, his plying partners Mannassero, mickelsons coach: butch harmon both said he was taking forever. I guess this could distract his playing partners but still, I can't help but feel bad for poor kid.. On the interview after his game he stayed really calm and didn't even show a little bit of anger and disgust. WOW!!! Unbelievable for a 14 year old, since i'm only 16. I can tell you I would have been enraged.

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

What we need now is consistency.
Even if 5 or 6 players get penalised, doing this could actually end up being the best thing that could happen.
I do feel sorry for him, even though he seemed to handle it well.
To me it was the easy option,i could only imagine what would be the outcome if Tiger had been penalised,
and in a major.

But if he same pros are put on the clock every week, shouldn't there be some kind of punishment?

Re: Shot penalty... Outrageous.

Should a 14yr old really be competing in the Masters? I'm not saying he shouldn't,just asking the question.

You can't punish someone for consistantly almost breaking the rules, otherwise I'd be in prison for "almost murder" after all the rounds Ive got planned with Scouser this year...

If he is good enough then yes, more importantly should some of the old and bold be playing? It's a small field anyway and there is a lot of dead wood in there.
