Referee in the WHU - BRE game is just shirking his responsibility.

Obvious penalty and he doesn't give it, allows play to go on for fully 50 seconds until the ball goes out of play. Then VAR recommends on-field review and the penalty is given fully 2 minutes after the initial incident.

Referee hiding behind his crutch of VAR. Andy Gray going apoplectic on TNT.
I knew there was a reason I was avoiding watching matches on TNT you’ve just reminded me of what it was.

Regarding the ref though and without watching the game I’m hardly surprised, they’re all getting far too reliant on it as a crutch for them not to make mistakes rather than actually refereeing the games.

Sounds a lot like Ali McCoist these days

Most co-commentators these days are bloody awful. Their expert views more often than not show far too much bias and is complete drivel.
In TNT’s defence the Fletcher McCoist pairing is the best commentary TEAM on TV, IMO. Too bad everything else they do Studio and Pitchside is terrible.

Looks like UEFA is not happy with the premier leagues spending plans. Now seeing as every league in UEFA has different spending plans. Am not sure where the happy medium is. Under the prem leagues present plans Brentford and Fulham are now able to compete with Juventus and AC Milan. And there in lies the problem. The biggest teams in UEFA don’t want that. They want to protect the status Quo. They don’t want Brentford and Fulham competing.
There was one thing I read that did prick my ears.
In France, where the picture is complicated by the collapse of the league's TV deal, the emphasis is on audited financial viability. Clubs must demonstrate solvency and budget control.
If the Prem leagues TV deals collapse, some clubs could be in a mess.

The TV deals are arranged and agreed long before the previous ones expire so if it was to collapse the clubs would have a decent amount of notice and time to sort out their finances.

Some clubs might even just ignore or break 1 or 2 or 115 rules.
They would of course be dealt with extremely swiftly though 😉🤣

When UEFA look at the imbalance in terms of money towards the likes of Barcelona and Madrid in Spain then they might have a case with the Prem

The Premier league do well because it’s popular and is able to sell their rights globally

UEFA didn’t have any issues when the money was flying around Italy or Spain

Or when the Spanish Royal family have allowed Real Madrid to benefit from spurious land deals meaning funds didn't have to change hands causing any debts. But was allowed as "Real" are the Royal families team of sorts

is what they did any different to the large amount of English clubs who have sold training grounds/hotels/stadiums to themselves?

That’s something that’s very new within the English game and many if not most have disagreed with it

Doesn’t make what Madrid have done over the decades ok now

Madrid have been selling their training ground for the last 30 years

I never said it makes it right.

What I am pointing out is English fans cannot take the high moral ground against foreign clubs when our clubs are doing exactly the same.

I would argue it's different in that clubs selling off land to to themselves is very dodgy business and shouldn't be allowed. But Madrid being gifted land on multiple occasions to then sell off is worse, at least the English clubs owned the land in the first place.

And still owned it after selling it off 🤷‍♀️
Not in all cases with RM land grabs and sales, that for me is why they're worse. Common land taken from the country as a "gift! in some cases sold on to themselves and others to developers to make them money and keep their profit and sustainability within UEFA regs.

The English clubs are wrong for doing it, the RM model is imo just ever so slightly worse.
