Am I right in thinking that until ball is touched at a corner the ball is dead and so nothing can happen. Refs have not got the bottle to penalise the defender, it always seems the attacker is committing the foul. Maybe it will just take a farcical couple of weeks in all divisions and have 6,7,8,9 penalties a game and it might stop. Like anything in this life, if the wrong doers have no consequences, then why stop
It’s a good job the referees and the leagues agreed to clamp down on holding at corners and set pieces, really been successful 🥳

Do you think that’s a penalty?
He lets go before he gets in the box and Cunha decided to go down imo.
That’s a dive you would never get him down with that unless he chose to.

No. I thought it was soft when I saw it first hand, and then when I saw it on television.

But the actions of the Palace player allowed everything which followed.

Penalty and red card were the correct call.
I'd also have given Cunha a yellow for diving.
However, by going to ground he brought the ref's attention to the fact that he'd been pulled back.
The danger is that, if he'd stayed on his feet, play would merely have continued.
Players often go to groung to highlight the fact that a foul is being/has been committed.

That’s an interesting view - so players can now dive to over exaggerate any touch

At most it’s a yellow outside the box but it’s definitely a dive as soon as he got in the box

But it’s just another example of inconsistency within the refs

I thought it was a penalty as the holding started outside the area but continued inside, which by the rules now means it’s a penalty.
I thought sending him off a bit harsh but can understand why the ref thought it was denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Is there any surprise that referees are getting it wrong when players, from all teams, at all levels, are continually trying to con the referee. Also, the repeated slow mo replays and constant criticism form armchair referees and ex players who don't always know the rules is bound to undermine their confidence.

A pen and red card even though you think it’s a dive 😳

Yes and you all criticised him for it .
But as soon as it’s a UTD player ???
We criticise Salah for it because he is a regular offender, and many times he goes down for even lesser contact.

Man Utd fans also criticised Ashley Young for it, so not fair to generalise us in being inconsistent on a one off incident such as this. An incident that many actually agree it was a foul, but debate whether it should be a penalty or free kick.

Noooooo Billy! That’s like saying the player is entitled to go down.😉

No it’s not, Paul. What I am saying is that his actions allowed the referee to do what he did. No hands on, the referee has nowhere to go with it.

Palace can have no complaints.

Can’t see what the problem is. If a player is fouled, I have no problem with him helping ;) the ref by going down, even if he exaggerates it a bit. A foul’s a foul.

However, diving without contact is cheating. For me it should be a red. Give ‘em a red and let VAR sort it out.;)

Cunha has plenty of time to get to Salahs level.
I’m sorry but you can’t get lesser contact than the Cunha one 🙈

Salah did dive in the past but if you look at some of the fouls on him now he is defo not getting any off the refs as his reputation goes before him.

The irony of Slot moving about the number of set pieces that Arsenal score and saying it is ruining the Premier League.

Guess which team has scored most set pieces in 2026?

Did he mention Arsenal or was he talking about the Premier league as a whole

Talks about it more here

Very similar to thinking last week on here with people not enjoying the games as much with a lot of the focus on set pieces
