The harm is it leads to a booking which, even if it’s not a second yellow, will impact on the team at some point. Why do it if you know it will lead to a booking? It’s just stupid. The vast majority of media, and social media, is saying what a prat. Any incident, booking, sending off and any rules are up for discussion, and part of that discussion is what a prat.

Should that rule be changed? Why? It’s a nothing rule, just follow it. What’s next thing, showing your jockstrap?

How many rugby players have you seen do it? I guess that’s part of my make up. As an ex-rugby player, just play the game, follow the rules and say ā€œyes sirā€ to the ref.

I meant what’s the harm in someone celebrating with taking off the shirt

Yep we all know it’s a yellow card etc and it’s stupid when someone does that etc but I was talking in terms of why is it a yellow card and should it be when it’s a harmful celebration that’s no different to others really

It just is Phil, just accept it.
All players know the rule.
It’s really not that hard to celebrate without taking your shirt off šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Maybe it's because the authoriies are trying to make football look like a grown-up sport - rather than one that's played by children and idiots?

I personally don't like the yellow card rule for it. Celebrations are a great part of the game and for me this sort of thing stifles the joy of the moment.

They were talking about it on the Peter Crouch Podcast last week and looked into why the rule was brought in. Apparently the wording states that it falls under "poor conduct" šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøand also there's issues about potential time wasting (like they're really strict about that in other areas of the game).

Believe there's also an element of shirt sponsors not being happy about it - which is probably the main reason!
VAR checks all goals in the PL so players have time to change their whole kit never mind taking their shirt off.

Stupid rule.

Yet it is played by kids at the highest level. Some as young as 15.

And let's not pretend all of us were outstanding mature individuals in our 20's. I certainly remember having mates (and perhaps me, despite being more reserved) doing crazy things in our uni days (early 20's). I'm sure most of us are different now than we were back then.

Goodness knows how we'd behave in our 20's if we had what felt like infinite wealth and had been adored by many many people since we were teenagers. I reckon, in many ways, it would dignificantly delay the maturity process.

That being said, the rules say taking your shirt off is an unsubjective yellow. So, it is a moronic second yellow to get, regardless whether anyone thinks the rule is harsh or not.

On the issue of time wasting, especially by keepers taking goal kicks. The ref controls the clock and should, ideally, add the time on. But it’s not just about time, it can also break the rhythm of the game, something teams want to do if the opposition has momentum.

It’s a tough one, and sending someone off for a second yellow due to time wasting seems unduly harsh. But how else can it be dealt with? Maybe coming at it from a different perspective might change things. Why not just have the ref extend the match by 5 minutes for every obvious attempt to waste time?
Every team who is behind would waste time after four minutes of extra added time ,the game would never end ..
Ten minute sin bin would be a better option.

Agree with this. It's a weird instinct to go to isn't it? I've never instinctively removed any item of clothing provoked by any kind of emotion. Like that time Sergio Garcia got angry and took his shoe off and threw it somewhere. šŸ˜‚

He wasn't even 'showing off' since he had another shirt underneath on this occasion. Maybe he thought "sheesh, scoring that goal has made me really warm, I'd better take this outer shirt off for a minute to cool down".
Poor Mrs Orikoru šŸ˜‚

Shirts coming off stupid thing to do, stupid player.

Think it’s mostly down to the fact our fringe players are mostly all new signings and they haven’t all played much together. It’ll come, hopefully! šŸ˜…

Fingers crossed.

Positives certainly outweighed the negatives. Jesus on two crosses. Some beautiful football played. And Elliot Anderson looking like a twinkle toed magician!

Hopefully we can build.

We've only had a small sample size, under some pretty tough circumstances (bought in right after the international break with 4 away games in 2 weeks), but I love what I've seen so far and it's improved every single game. the 1st half last night we played absolutely unreal football.

I know we'll concede goals under Ange, because like vegans telling you they are vegan, all the Ange haters HAVE to drop it into every single conversation, but we were millimetres away from scoring 5 or 6 yet again....so I don't think it'll be long before we start converting those chances.

Will be nice to finally be back at home for Sunderland and Mitjylland next Thursday.
