The media were obsessed with his system when he joined, constantly asking him about it. His greatest mistake was to confidently declare that is what he firmly believes in, and telling all he wont change. It’s not the system which concerns me. There are doubtless occasions against some opponents when it may work.
It’s Amorim’s complete lack of willingness to change. He simply won’t budge. Opposition managers must rub their hands with glee, because a fixture against United must be the easiest to plan for. You know exactly what to expect for ninety minutes. And with the lack of mobility in that midfield, what you can expect is an easy ride.
I’ve been patient. I’m always happy to give a manager time. And I hate the merry-go-round we are permanently on. But this can’t continue.
He now has no wiggle room. Even if he did want to change, and it went well, he'd just be criticised for not changing earlier. He has backed himself into a corner.
Had he simply just told the media at the start that it is a system he likes, but there is more than one way to skin a cat, he would have been able to adapt without anyone telling him "I told you so"
