Not just the clubs. I was at Wembley for a home game against Denmark some time in the 80s. I think it was Gazza's debut 🤔. There probably were no more than 30000 there - one side was completely empty iirc so that the other side looked full for the TV cameras.
I'll look it up tomorrow and find I may not in fact be remembering correctly :-) but it was definitely a much less well supported sport back then.

Callum Wilson signed by west Ham

seen some great comments on the BBC "Have Your Say"...

  • Pleased to see Fullkrug now has some competition for the treatment table.
  • 2 goals in the last 2 years ? Just typifies Sullivan as self appointed DoF, never learns, but at least Wilson is cheaper than Ings. If we resign Antonio aggregate striker ages will top 100, really encouraging.
  • Nice to see the Andy Carroll memorial medical wing getting dusted off.
  • He’ll slot straight in to the physio room.
  • Are Newcastle throwing in the physio's couch which Wilson occupied for so long?
  • So West Ham have replaced two ageing and injury prone strikers in Ings & Antonio with......an ageing and injury prone striker. Genius.
It seems fair to say that many of the Hammers fans are less than impressed!
Thank Christ we bombed our home and all that was enjoyable about supporting West Ham in exchange for the worst ground in the country to move to this next level… I’ve never felt more meh about a signing in my whole life. The oldest front line in prem history? Can't wait till we offer Antonio a deal on deadline day.

Wilson is a hot and cold striker. Ideally he is on a performance based wage. He could go 10 games and look ineffectual, he could score 10 goals in the next 10 games. He'll then miss 15 games through injury 🤷.

If he's the key striker, that's worrying. If he's the back up, not so bad

He’s the sort of signing I would expect if we were relegated last season. It’s hardly squad building, it’s simply plugging gaps with rubbish. Most fans suspect it’s the owners doing rather than Potters which makes it even less palatable.
After selling one of our best players to our bitter rivals then to sign an old player looking for his last payday with a worse injury record than Kieron Dyer is really taking the pee out of the fans.

Obviously was completely lucid a few points down at 0130...!

Also, now sober, would like to share my dismay (but not surprise) at West Ham's pre-season business. Hey ho, Sullivan is obviously (as ever) hoping that there are 3 worse teams in the league while enriching himself. I've decided to risk a tenner to go against that and dull the pain. Only got 6/1 though...

Before he went and got himself banned I had a £50 bet with PJ that we would get relegated, proceeds to the Bobby Moore foundation, I fully intend to pay if I loose, and I’m sure he will too.

It wasn't a great game in any way, shape or form but there were a couple of very good goals.
It's pre-season in a hot and humid location. You just want everyone to get through it without issues. Both clubs have one more game before the league starts, both back in England. You hope to see a little more by then but I never worry about what happens at this stage.

This, however the BBCs Man Utd love in with the club continues. Simon Stones headline on the game. “Green shoots or another false Dawn”.
No, it’s another preseason friendly played thousands of miles away. 👍

But, it's a headline that has got you to sit up, listen and try and debunk. So, looks like Simon Stones has successfully done his job :ROFLMAO:

Yeah. I heard James Maddison looks to have picked up a potentially serious injury in Spurs game
