He may well go still but as I see it...... Trippier was the catalyst for the changes under Howe. He is the guy who raised the bar for everyone at the club. They have huge respect for him, on the pitch and also in the dressing room. He brings more to the team than just his playing ability.
Bayern have supposedly offered £12.8m, £0.8m more than the Toon paid for him. Okay for his age, but not a big deal. If they offered £20m or so they might think a bit harder.
They have his replacement already, Livramento, but it's his presence that they want to keep hold of right now I'd say.
Saying all this, he could be sold on Thursday

Why are we turning down the money? ...assuming teams want our players, they will think we are in desperate need to sell (cos the press keep telling everyone we need to sell) and will pitch in with low initial offers...just like other clubs inflating fees when we come knocking, the reverse will happen when we try to sell....so we need to hold out for as much as we can get rather than dropping our pants and bending over to be taken advantage of. If Bayern come back with say £16-18m mil then yes...you have to say ...take the money...its more than was paid for him.
I think its going to be really difficult for us to do business, especially with PL clubs, in this and the next transfer window....whilst they think funds are tight they will try to squeeze as much juice out of us as they can. However the simple fact is that we are not getting relegated, and in the next calendar year we will have improved commercial deals that will drive revenue upwards, plus the CL money, there is no real need to panic and sell players left right and centre as is being suggested....yes there might be the odd exit of older, fringe players (Manquillo has gone, Krafth, Karius, Dummett, Gillespie and Wilson are all likely to go in the summer) but unless a player is truly desperate to get away then any sales need to be on the clubs terms...and if the club decide that the positive impact on the pitch and dressing room is greater than whatever pot of gold is being thrust their way, then, so be it...he stays a Newcastle player.
Given the injuries...there are certain positions where it would be madness to sell. Yes RB is covered by Livramento...but there is no cover should he get injured, so any sale of Trippier has to be to our advantage and I'm not sure that at $12mil it really gives us much more wiggle room to get players in. I guess a lot really does depend on the underlying story around KT's personal life...there is no doubt he has had a drop in form since he left the England camp early and had the altercation with the fans at Bournemouth....whether this is all related to "off-field incidents" is something that may be revealed. It also needs to be remembered that Trippier is seen within the club as almost like Adam...the first man...he was the first to buy in to this new potential future...as such he is well thought of within the club and by the fans.
Unfortunately the squad is so thin that the club has to be really careful who they let go and when. If we weren't so racked with injuries then I could quite easily see players like Longstaff and Almiron being moved on in this window to ease PSR pressures. However, ultimately though...every player has his price*... someone comes in and activates Guimares £100m release clause...I think it would be difficult to argue against accepting such a bid at this stage of the clubs journey.
* its 29 years and 13 days since we sold Andy Cole to our biggest rivals at the time and it wasn't as though we were strapped for cash.

But looking at their team it’s still hard to see the real top level quality players they have - their best signing is prob Palmer.

I think it does look bad, but not in the Liverpool matches. If you look at the league table, specifically the various Club’s win ratios, you’d expect to see the win ratios under each ref to mirror the league table, especially the more matches they ref for each club.
Liverpool’s overall win ratio is around 66%, and is around 66% under matches reffed by Tierney. Looks like they get a very fair deal off Tierney. Have a look at City’s win ratio. An overall win ratio of around 66%, similar to Liverpool’s, would suggest they would be pretty close to Liverpool in the table, which they are. Now have a look at City’s win ratio for matches reffed by Tierney… 86% win ratio, and with enough matches reffed to balance the figures. Maybe I’m looking at it all wrong but it sure doesn’t look right to me.

I can only think they reckon Bayern will come back with an increased bid.
Bayern do seem to the employing a scattergun approach to the market this time. I can understand a side needing cover but the prices they are willing to pay seem extravagant and it begs the question what their plan is going forward. Do they need a rebuild or are they just trying to fill certain positions

I do wonder if they are buying players that will help their new super star striker settle in Germany, obviously he has hit the ground running but I mean settle on personal terms. They both have played with him and speak the same language.
