Howe will get another year at the very least. If they perform again next season like they are this season (they shouldn't if the players stay fit next year) then he will be out of the door - but I think he's earned enough credit to ride out this season still in a job.

Owners aren't thick, they know how many injuries they have had and its one of the biggest reasons for underperformance.

Jose is a money manager, he needs cash to spend to be in with any chance of success and he sulks if he does not get it. FFP means that Newcastle do not currently have the budget he would need. He will either be off to the Saudi Pro League to get a final big pay cheque as his shine has worn off and I cannot see him wanting anything other than the top job, or be may go for an international position as that would stoke his ego.

There was a caller on Talksport today who seemed to think Southgate should be sacked immediately, and Jose brought in to manage England.

Points deduction can definitely have that effect, remember regularly singing you can stick your 2 points up your....... on route to the title in 91 :)

Don't tell me, he wanted Southgate sacked for being too defensive as a manager and not getting the most out of the attacking talent and wanted Park the Bus Jose in to replace him. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Anyone who appoints Ed Woodward, lets him oversee the downfall of the club and then leave on his own terms - is pretty thick in my book!

Think what United would be worth if after Fergie you appointed Pep and all the old barca people in your structure above, you'd be so clear of the competition its unfathomable.

Jose is a risky manager to get in these days. Good early career, but not so sure about his CV over last 5 or 6 years? He can make headlines about himself, although it might deflect from players, can still be irritating for the Club and fans. Especially if he isn't being overly successful at the time.

Eddie Howe should not get the bullet, he's had a terrible time with injuries and his team will only get better when players come back.
 
We all know the reasons behind FFP. And there are quite a few.
But a Third Party, the premier league. Tells a football clubs owners eg, Man City and Everton that the owners cannot spend limitless amounts of cash on players. But it can spend limitless amounts of its own cash on building and improving stadiums and infrastructure. (Which make the Club and the Premier League branding look fantastic). Because the clubs need to be sustainable. 😳
Furthermore FFP is there to stop clubs from going bust. Right, so could someone explain to me how Reading are in the brown stuff up to there necks with an owner who is asset stripping the club and has already been the owner of two clubs that have gone bust. Yet said person passed the fit and proper criteria to be an owner of a football club in England.
When It comes to the people that run football FIFA, UEFA, premier League, Football league. I have no confidence in these Buffoons whatsoever.

Spot on.

No one is losing patience with Howe. Just wild press speculation that because we're not at the same elevated level we were last season, that the wheels have fallen off, and the manager needs replacing.

Overachieved drastically last year....8th place this year, and some good runs in the cups, whilst staying the right side of PSR, will be about where we should have been, given a "normal rate of progress" from two years ago. Champions League didnt do us any favours...clubs need to grow into European football and it often takes two or three seasons before they get used to the Mid-week/weekend cadence of matches.

You only need to look at the players on the bench in the last couple of months to realise that the squad depth still isnt there.

I've watched a few. It appears to me that African football is still blighted by a bit of naive exuberance and hot headedness.

In the Algeria - Angola match last night, Angola had many decent scoring opportunities but thrashed wildly at the ball, often ballooning it into row Z or barely making contact. The goal they did score was a penalty that crashed into the bar and bounced down and out only for the penalty taker to beat two colleagues to the ball and prod it into the net without another player touching the ball. Luckily it had crossed the line like Hurst's 2nd goal in '66 (well, ok...maybe it was a bit clearer !!).

Even Algeria, one of the more accomplished teams, had many flaws, including one obviously pre-practiced free kick routine where one player must not have read any of the scripts and ran back out of the box to collect a cross field ball that was clearly destined to be attached by a player lurking just outside the "D".

When Cameroon burst on to the scene in 1990 everyone said it wouldnt be long before an African team was challenging to win the World Cup....30 years later I see little evidence that they are getting close. Morocco in 2022 are the only team to make it to the Semi-Finals. In 2018 Senegal were officially ranked 17th, Algeria in 2014 - 14th, Ghana in 2010 made the Q-Final and in 2006 they were ranked 13th overall. Senegal made the Q-final in 2002....and then its back to Cameroon in 1990 and their Q-final appearance.

Of the 4 or 5 African teams that qualify for the WC....the norm is that only 1 ever makes it past the Group stages and in 2018 none of the African teams qualified for the knockout rounds.

They have still got a long way to go.
